– Character Rollbacks
– Character and vault rollbacks will only be issued to you if your character file has been corrupted by the server, a significant problem has resulted from the actions of server staff or server content, or your character files have been archived after several years of inactivity and you would like them restored.
what is the reason for this rule? what happens if an item is lost from the item loss bug and that item has a unique name? Are we supposed to just take the loss even though it is not our fault? I would like to hear what everyone else has to say concerning this new rule please... I ask that everyone keep it civil as the rule is already in place and if we wish to have that decision retracted then a civil discussion is the only route that will see it happen.
I personally would not ask for a rollback unless I lost a unique item from the lost Item bug that the DM Team could not legitimately replace. This did indeed happen to me once and the rollback was the only solution. It is my hope that the DM Team will add loss of a uniquely named item to the exception list. (crossed fingers)

with this particular case i would advise that if you have unique items that you screen shot the item name and its stats because yea its a bit late if the item bug grabs it and replacing it will likely require a screen shot
also any really nice items in general i would screen shot them, especially if you change the name, SS it before and after so you have a reference of what the original item was
as far as a rollback for replacing them, most of the time it shouldnt be needed since all items handed out are uploaded on the server and are available to the DMs, the issue would be them finding said item which the screen shots will help with

After that roll back I spent one entire evening taking screenshots of any items of great value. (I have a file folder set up for each of my toons now) You definitely give very sound advice in your post. In most cases it would have been replaced but the item I had lost was a drop from the old Bandit on the bridge by soulbar. It had a unique name and unique stats. I created an entirely new toon around that item and when I lost it in the minatar ruins I even had a screenshot of it dropping out of my inventory. However....... they could not recreate the item as it had a unique name. a Rollback was the only option.
Definitely take screenshots of your items that you spent over 100,000 gold for or is worth more than that!
Darkcloud, if you are worried about losing unique items log into client now and take screenshots of each one of them and then email those pictures to yourself so you can't even lose them if your computer goes cactus (I store mine in an online drive myself).
Then if you lose one of your items you can take a screenshot of the item vanishing from your combat log, and you already have all the other evidence you require to prove you had the item you just lost. None of this requires rollbacks to be evoked by admin.
I believe what Maecius has just announced has to do with the irksome process he has to go through to rollback a character simply because they tried to RCR using a campfire and someone else came along and stole their stuff. I believe it is always the onus of the player to take the risk and bear the consequences if something goes wrong.
It is -always- safer to get a friend to mule for you. I'll even put my hand up to say if anyone wants to mule for an RCR and I'm in game, send me a tell and I'll help you if I'm not already occupied in RP. I would like to think the rest of the QC team would be of a similar mind and held to a higher degree of trustworthiness in such matters.
If available, a DM is by far the -safest- option for muling items (because they can export their DM avatar with your items; even if the server crashes unexpectedly they still have everything stored on that avatar copy)
It is poor form by other players to steal from muling campfires and unfortunately only shows that, like in the real world, temptations to exploit opportunities for easy but unlawful gain are far too hard to resist for some people.
I am 100% in support of the change because it isn't Maecius job to clean up this kind of stuff. A corrupted bic file, yes. Accidentally spoke to Character Deleter instead of RCR? Your fault!
It's not really punishment for others' sins though, Cham. The player has always had the responsibility upon their own shoulders when it comes to item muling/RCRs. It has never been the responsibility of admins to clear up these kinds of minor issues.
I personally would prefer that there was no muling at all, but since that is incredibly irksome to enforce and would put unnecessary strain on the DM team I'm content with the current arrangement. If players want to mule, they do so at their own risk. This fact (which, really, was always in effect) ought now to be clearly understood in this recent clarification of the server rules.

On related note, it might make sense to move death to another side of the nexus. Right now RCR and Death stand close to each other, and it IS possible to misclick.

Now -that- is an incredibly good suggestion! I'll take that up with the area builders in QC right away!
Whether a DM wishes to help mule or not is up to the individual DM. That being said, if I am in-game and not busy I am willing to help players mule items. It is fairly low on my list of priorities, though, so if I have pending requests you may need to wait a while.

Done. Live. One less thing to ...
PC1 = Nerys, Emissary and Skald of the Greyfox tribe, last seen roaming north near Secomber
PC2 = Valqis Sanejmeh; far away cartographer, Oracle of Nut at chaltin QulDaq, former navigator of the Sea Seeker, Reader of Candlekeep and sometime performer.
Doing fix-it work for the server is just a part of my daily routine. The time element of performing the rollbacks is the lesser of the two concerns, for me.
The main reason I am tightening up the rollback rules is because it's just very easy to exploit a rollback. We've had players abuse the staff's good faith with rollbacks to get free characters (an especially large worry with the current 100% RCR system in place), duplicate their inventories (and, or, epic items and GP), and so on.
It's much easier to ensure fair play if the DMs do simple tasks like item refunds. Using a rollback for something as minor as a single lost item just opens the server up to exploit vulnerabilities that could potentially damage the in-game environment and grant unfair advantages to certain players or player groups.
If a DM's solution is a scalpel, a rollback is a wrecking ball. The wrecking ball is good for certain problems, but I want to stop using it for problems that can be fixed with a scalpel.
one problem I can see with rollback rule would be with dishonest people. example, player transfers items to a different account or partner in crime, claims they were lost or stolen and gets a rollback then has duplicates of their best items.

I don't want to get into the details of how rollbacks are exploitable, as I do still intend to give them out when there is not a better option, but that is certainly one of the ways in which the system has been abused, yes.
Let's please not get into a discussion on how a system based on trust can be broken, though. I'd rather not tempt anyone with bad ideas. Those who are caught doing such things are usually banned, and I don't like the thought of something as boring as greed shrinking our player population!
