Has the server reset yet?
It may not go into effect until after a reset if it was a hot update.

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
The server was reset after adding the files. If new Ki Step cooldown is not working, then this is a bug.

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
I don't think you will see a timer if you are looking for one.
The code change introduced a time out mechanic similar to Teleport, but a lot shorter.
In the pending version I removed it, its an ugly temporary solution. It was replaced by an increased cost in Stunning Fist uses. 1 to 3. Its also affected by Dimension Locks. Its also being discussed under what circumstances you should be able to use it.

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
Is this so that monk dips (3 lvls) will be able to take Ki Step, and use it at least once? And, is the "refunding over time" mechanics staying?Rasael wrote: It was replaced by an increased cost in Stunning Fist uses. 1 to 3.
So Ki Step is being defined as a dimensional "step,"...what dimension does the Monk then travel through, exactly?Rasael wrote: Its also affected by Dimension Locks.
If it matters, I'd suggest you cannot use it during combat (like the same with changing armor). However, that severely nerfs it (*dodges tomoatoes*). At least consider it to not be an instant action (maybe have a quickened casting time associated with it). And by the Godz, it should be interrupt-able!!Rasael wrote:Its also being discussed under what circumstances you should be able to use it.
And I say this as someone who is going to take the feat!

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
I am also unclear as to how Dimension Lock applies to Ki Step. The way Ki Step's feat description reads, you don't step through any dimension. You just move blindingly fast. Mechanically, I have no problem with putting more limitations on Ki Step, but Dimension Lock does not make sense to me from a "lore" perspective.
But aside from that, I am all for nerfing Ki Step. No tomatoes from me. I support increased Stunning Fist uses, cooldown, distance limit, can't use it in combat, no instant action, interruptable, etc.
I say this as someone who has already taken the feat and been using it to its limit.

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
This is a feat that needs to be worth giving an entire feat choice for, there is no purpose in making it work if NO ONE is willing to take it.
If this is just fast speed... add expeditious retreat at monk lvl x = monk caster class level...
This seems to be something good that some people like but others think this is dumb... no one will ever be satisfied, just look at Blood Mage, the signature ability for them is Blood Walking, it is a cool and wow, fun trip.... nerfed to the point it hasn't worked in any usable way for over a year.
Too much work or effort seems to be going into fixing Ki Step to end in a nerfed condition that only 2 monks both 3 level dips took just to be cool for down the road 12 months.

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
As it is now, Ki Step is almost DM movement. In fact, Ki Step is better than DM movement, since a DM avatar still needs to technically walk on the map; Ki Step is point-and-click relocation.
I agree the feat should still be fun to take, but the proposed nerfs would not make the feat suddenly boring. The feat is so powerful right now that the feat needs all those nerfs just to make it reasonable.
I can ignore the server's content with impunity, and I don't think I should be allowed to do that.
EDIT:

I'm not quite clear on your meaning. A pure monk would have 30 uses of Ki Step, which is 30 uses of DM movement (or 10, if the Stunning Fist uses have been increased). That is not a trivial matter, at least IMHO. My character is a pure monk, and can currently cross the map in one click to get a wyvern egg, instantly return to safety with another click, and totally ignore the valley of wyverns and fire efreet. And he would still have enough uses left over to Ki Step through all the maps on the way to Baldur's Gate.Aeb Ankor wrote:Too much work or effort seems to be going into fixing Ki Step to end in a nerfed condition that only 2 monks both 3 level dips took just to be cool for down the road 12 months.

EDIT:
Ah, have you used Ki Step or seen it used? What you said in the quoted text above leads me to think maybe you haven't seen Ki Step yet. Don't know if that's an incorrect assumption on my part.Aeb Ankor wrote:If this is just fast speed... add expeditious retreat at monk lvl x = monk caster class level...

As much as it hurts me to say it, I too have a monk, this feat is too good to be true atm.

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
I have taken ki step and I enjoy it's use. It really brings some style to the monk class, IMHO.
I would recommend maybe increasing the amount of stunning fists used per step more than anything else. It really isn't that game breaking.
I agree that dimensional lock doesn't apply in this case.
HIPs or an invis potion also allows you to skip mobs safely. Ki step less so because if you've already been targeting, the mobs will just turn and follow you, which includes spellcasting and ranged attacks. Yes, you can ki step away from danger...or you can just run as most won't be able to catch you.
I agree with Aeb Ankhor, nerf it too much then it will just sit untaken as most monks are already strapped for feats as is.

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
Yes, and measures were put in place to prevent complete impunity in those cases. Some mobs have True Seeing, some mobs have high Spot to detect HiPSters. Opening chests breaks invisibility and stealth (there was a time when it did not). So there are countermeasures to invisibility and HiPS.Kauaiian wrote:Players can already do this.

There are no such countermeasures to Ki Step. (That is why I agree with Dimension Lock to limit Ki Step, from a mechanics perspective. I just don't think it makes sense from a "lore" perspective.)
Don't get me wrong. I love Ki Step. I
But I still recognize that it needs to be toned down.

Re: Ki Step cooldown not working
Where does Ki Step stand, at the moment? Are these all true?:
- Ki Step cooldown between uses, per QC and per community feedback.
- Ki Step is restrained by Dimensional anchors.
- Ki Step now costs 3 uses of Stunning Fist.
- Ki Step - Stunning Fist uses refunded over time
- Ki Step is an interruptable action.
- Ki Step has a casting time.
Also, related to RP Issues:
Cheers.
