Disable Thunder Weather

I first noticed the thunder weather in the farmlands on the first of March. Due to some past that I won't detail here, I cannot handle thunder. When it happens in real life, I put on my headphones and listen to loud music. Sleeping through it is completely off the table.

I was told that the thunder weather was relatively rare, but in the past five days, I've encountered it three times now in the Farmlands. When it happens, I am given two options. Leave the area, or completely mute my game. So far I have chosen to leave the area in each of the three instances. Muting my game would be a horrible option, I feel.

I know I'm not alone here. Some people I play Phasmophobia with, if the random weather has thunder, we guess the ghost and then leave the map immediately. According to the Cleveland Clinic website, 8% of adults suffer from "Specific Phobias", with Astraphobia being one of the most common. With a player base in the hundreds, this means that dozens of players likely at the very least have the thunder incite a bit of anxiety.

This is something that I don't believe would harm anyone's RP by taking out, but would enhance some people's RP if is were disabled.

I don't see any problem with disabling it, if it makes some people's lives better.

I agree that disabling the thunder wouldn't hurt anyone's immersion or RP, but having it there does hinder both immersion and RP for more than a few.

I love thunder and find it soothing. People have plenty of phobias from spiders to the outdoors but we don't petition for the removal of outdoor maps or spider mobs along with the plethora of other phobias that exist.

Firstly, this thunder is not a soothing thunder. It peals every 3-4 seconds on a loop. Even to those who enjoy thunder, it would be annoying and immersion breaking.

Secondly, my issue is not a phobia. I don't want to get into detail here what it actually is, but I brought up the phobia statistics to show that I am not the only person who feels this way.

Thirdly, avoiding an area because it has spiders is much, much different than having to avoid an RP zone for 8-10 hours and losing out on story.

And lastly, the precedent for such things has been set by the devs and admin back in early 2020 when someone asked for a gambling device to be removed. I believe this is very analogous to that; and in some ways I would say this is even more severe. Whereas gambling is an addiction one can seek help with, my issue will never go away and is completely beyond my control.

Strongly disagree. I added improved weather systems, with actual sounds, because what was annoying and broke my immersion more was soundless rain that lasted in 15 minute intervals.

Now, this wasn't my first choice for the thunderstorm track, but my first choice unfortunately had very clear breaks when looping.

I do not intend to remove the sound. But there's two options we can do to help you deal with it.

1. I would be open to looking for and implementing a more agreeable thunderstorm track, if we can find one. I could share them with you and get your feedback.

2. These are vanilla tracks, so I believe it would be easy to just mod it with a different sound (like the basic rain track), or even mod it out completely. This way the issue is fixed for you, without blocking it for others.

This seems to be a perfect solution in my eyes, and one which didn't even cross my mind. Had I thought of it, I would have started with this solution and not even bothered with making this thread.

I'm assuming that the modding would need to be done on my end? If so, I can start private messages with you on how to go about that, if that is agreeable. Or, the instructions could be posted either here or elsewhere, so that others who wish to switch it up could as well.

Nothing against your Phobia AnotherGuy, I sympathize with having a fear of spiders myself. What helps for me against this when going through spider areas is having been scrolled back so they are not immediately in my face. Which you alleviate your fear with muting as I do with being scrolled back as far as I can on the view screen. I sympathize with your asking but I feel that should not be asked of a whole server when you have the option to mute as I do to scroll as far back from the spider as I can. We should not force people to work around our own fears when we have some solutions ourselves to help the issue.

So i am for leaving the weather system as it is, just as I would leave the spiders for people to fight.

i do like Camp fire story but way do we have a city if people stay at the same campfire and midnight if is rain or snow ppeople dont caree the fire do not warm any if is snow or rain but it is not for the warm i forgot i is for the sup the magical Cauldron sup but you kill the the RP game with stay one camp fire what is wrong with the taven or Inn well it help if er could have made thye firest person view while we RP indoors i have told many time how to make it don
