Life to the Taverns!
Supporting existing and creating new Social Hubs
The Vision
How is this going to work? This announcement comes from the intention of bringing players together, while allowing some degree of freedom, in relation to the use of existing taverns and establishments. We would like to encourage the idea of creating characters that work as employees in places like the Friendly Arm, the Feasthall of the Undercellar and all existing establishments across the map. The goal is to allow such players to bring RP in these areas, to make them proper social hubs for people to go and interact.
Additionally, as DMs, when not busy with requests and events, we do like to gravitate around player gatherings. Keeping players together for RP in such places can be helpful for us as well.
ExpectationsYour character can act as an employee of the establishment's owner without the approval of the DM Team. It is appreciated for us to be notified so we can keep track of it, but you don't need the DM Team's approval to start working in these establishments.
Once you have made such a decision we strongly encourage the use of the LFRP tag, in the main BGTSCC Discord: Click Here!
With this, you will be able to advertise your presence when your character is working their shift. Example: "@LFRP Regina has started her shift at the Feasthall! Feel free to come in for some RP". Also a brief explanation of how to get to the establishment can be useful.
It is also advised to inform players about any potential complications, making some characters unwelcome in some areas, for example Soubar or the underbelly of Baldur's Gate. Or the opposite! You can specify what kind of crowd such a place may appeal to. Any details adding immersion are welcome.
Where is this allowed?
These rules are applied to all existing shops, establishments and tavern across the map, as long as they are not already owned by a player guild or part of a player housing building (which is privately owned by a specific player). If you want to play the apprentice of a blacksmith you can, or sell potions and magic items in a wizard's shop you can. Taverns and inns are not the only type of business that follow this set of guidances.
The DM Team would love to see more players taking the initiative and gather the crowd, while we look forward to see more of this happening in the future we have to set some expectations.
- Hierarchy: your character will be an employee, the leadership of the establishment goes to the NPC so please act accordingly. We may consider shifting that to the player, with the appropriate narrative reasons and build up, but that is something that must happen with DM supervision.
- Lore & Ambience: we advise some extent of research on existing manuals/wikis about the place you intend to work in. It is important to keep an ambience that reflects what the place should be and feel like. Of course, this doesn't mean that you can't give some personal touch, but we expect players to make an effort and give these places a personality that reflects their place in the setting. You have the power to bring the setting alive, enhancing the mood of a specific area.
- DM Team Communication: absolutely not required but appreciated, you can make us aware of your character's presence as employee in such places and we may support your initiative, if you happen to have any requests about it. Essentially, we welcome communication but it is not necessary.
- Server Rules: we would finally make a small mention of respecting the server rules. Working as bartender does not allow you to roleplay patrons, and other customers, and doesn't alow you to create rumors that your character would not have created themselves. Essentially, you can act as your own character alone, without supervision.
