// A little more information would help give shape to a new symbol. Is there anything else you could tell us? From what I've read I have a few ideas. But I'd hate to waste a lot of time and effort on something that doesn't fit with what you're lookin for.

Re: A Contest For An Artist
Thematically this guild is focused on arcane magic, therefore I suggest paying tribute to Mystra through using her star symbol in the guild banner. I myself would not use something that looks like a Shar-inspired solar eclipse.
PC1 = Nerys, Emissary and Skald of the Greyfox tribe, roaming north near Secomber
PC2 = Valqis Sanejmeh; far away cartographer, Oracle of Nut at chaltin QulDaq, former navigator of the Sea Seeker, Reader of Candlekeep and sometime performer.

Boddynock folds his drawing into a paper plane and throws it at Lisanna's head.
((I essentially just taught myself GIMP to make this, I suppose I could fool around with the colors, but essentially, a circle, with a hand grasping a book. Book has Mystra's star on it. And I know Lis likes purple.))
Edit: The grey parts are actually transparent, so you can put it on any color background, although I had white in mind when I made it.

((wasn't happy with that... Take two))
And take three, because Lisanna "didn't like the color" even though I specifically chose it with her in mind. *sticks out tongue*
Seriously, this is what is like working for her...

Re: A Contest For An Artist
(( The concept of my submission could be an eclipse, which has absolutely nothing to do with Sharran beliefs other than a vague resemblance to the poorly drawn, overly simplistic symbol that comes in the handbooks. I was actually inspired by the pupil and iris of an eye because of the circle inside a circle effect it gives ie, The Inner Circle. Surely we all agree that we should crush creativity in favor of thematic purity though and we should stick with the wonderfully drawn deity source material for any inspiration. Even though this is not a religious guild nor does it make any specific reference to Mystra.
Ohh and lastly....we wouldn't ever want a symbol that could possibly be construed as evil...we don't allow any ambiguity or room for interpretation around here.))

Re: A Contest For An Artist
A quick technical note. Most of our cloak models use a 256x256 image file for the appearance. This is front and back of the cloak. So any icon added should be scaled to be about 100-pixels wide. Much more than that risks the chance of clipping off of the icon's edges.
Also, just because you create it does not guarantee it will go IG. I know Luna is greatly backed up, a large portion of which is due to AppChanger submits.
