When the wigs were incorporated years ago, the Staff at the time was very clear that hair is only hair. There would not be anything magical about it.

As for long hair being clipped by helmets, that has to do with code with the *mdb file that marks the helmet as completely overriding natural hair, displaying cropped short hair, replacing with ponytail(?), other(?). I tried to figure it out and clone new wigs from the new styles, but so far a solution has eluded me (this was maybe two years ago?).

Others are welcome to create things on their own and submit them for consideration.
