Re: Suggestion: Which game time to real time ratio do you pr
one way of looking at the numbers is that out of the 50 votes so far, 48 people (96%) voted to slow down the cycles to a least 4:1, and 14(28%) voted to slow the scale to at least 3:1
personally, I voted for changing the IG server day/night cycles to 4:1.

As long as this only for mechanical night/day timing in game to real life time and not spell duration length changes in real life time, I supported and voted for 4:1.

Calvinus, I asked a developer about how it would affect spell duration. The change will affect all those spells with a duration of hour/level.
But considering that they're already at a point where they never run out between rests, it shouldn't make much difference
It will not affect spells with a duration of seconds, rounds, turns, or minutes per level.
I really hope we'll see this change implemented. There's definitely an overwhelming majority who would like to see a change on this one.

I voted 3:1. but anything around 4:1 and down would get my vote. 12:1 is bonkers

Re: Suggestion: Which game time to real time ratio do you pr
since there are concerns about spell duration for spells set currently set to "hours" / level, then perhaps they could be changed to 5 min/level so that they aren't affected by slowing down the server day/night time progression.

I don't think this is an issue at all. The hour ones were already so long they rarely fell off before a PC would rest anyway.

Re: Suggestion: Which game time to real time ratio do you pr
Are there concerns about this? I thought that was kind of part of the reason this was considered a good idea. It would make the hour/level spells last longer than the 10 minute/level spells, which is how it is supposed to be.grymhild wrote:since there are concerns about spell duration for spells set currently set to "hours" / level, then perhaps they could be changed to 5 min/level so that they aren't affected by slowing down the server day/night time progression.

personally, I'm fine with increasing hour duration spells, but really I am more concerned about how short the day/night cycles are for RP reasons.Deathgrowl wrote:Are there concerns about this? Just a word: if you do this on a 6:1 ratio or similar lengthy even ratios, there's a chance you will always play during the (game) night our always play during the (game) day.
That would be lousy.
We still require shorter ratios and/or uneven ratios that way we at least get a taste of different times of game-day from RL-day to RL-day.

Simply not true. The only way this would be true is 1:1. In addition crashes and updates add an element of change to the times you play.ragnarok1983 wrote:Just a word: if you do this on a 6:1 ratio or similar lengthy even ratios, there's a chance you will always play during the (game) night our always play during the (game) day.

Re: Suggestion: Which game time to real time ratio do you pr
Actually, if we play during the same time of the day every day, then our characters would experience the same (game) night or (game) day, if the ratio is a factor of 24. If the ratio were 3.5:1 or 5:1, then our characters would experience a slightly different (game) night and (game) day each time we log on. This would also be true for 3.14:1, 7:1, 10:1, 15:1... well, you get the idea.ragnarok1983 wrote:Just a word: if you do this on a 6:1 ratio or similar lengthy even ratios, there's a chance you will always play during the (game) night our always play during the (game) day.

For the sake of giving you a visual of what will occur with most even rations as presented... imagine you can only play between the hours of 1000 to 1200. The only ratio that will alternate from RL day to RL day is the 3:1.
Your point about crashes and resets remains true however. At least to some extant.

{edit} Well almost. At least the 3:1 will alternate day-to-day (real life). And anything greater than 6:1 is nearly moot, because even if the pattern repeats the same way every day, at least the game day is less than 2 hours long which means (if you game about 2 hours) you at least have a chance of seeing a day and a night. Even if it's not in their entirety.
