Ewe wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 1:13 am In case people don't know,

You can use detect poison on potions to tell if they are poisoned or not.

You can use neutralize poison to remove the poison from potions making them useful again.

Also, it's not a case of changing the icons etc. of a potion. You are able to add poison to any potion, making it poisonous. It's a game feature.
I actually think this is pretty ingenious EVIL RP, to fake potions that our Characters—but more so THE PLAYERS—rely upon with 100% certainty, but now are getting “tricked.”

Sure, it sucks because you the Player were not “aware” of it beforehand, so you get surprised. Surprise!!!

It’s funny, cause I start to think about everyone clamoring for a Time of Troubles experience, but then something like this happens, and then people freak out OOC (I’ve seen the OOC threats added to IG descriptions of OTHER items on the auctionhouse, subtle threats against the player selling poisons).

This was a great opportunity to have some RP, and now it’s getting ruined, imho. And that it’s getting “fixed” OOC by Staff, to protect players, is kinda lame (please don’t take personally).

As Ewe said, if it’s a game feature, why is it an issue?

I'm with Steve on this one.
I have no clue how you guys want to justify ICly a consignment shop selling counterfeit items, let alone poisons marketed as healing potions. At first notice of that, guards would be all over the place and the owner would know better.

But, the shop is a mechanic behind an otherwise non-reactive NPC and that fact is very easily abusable. I mean, what's going to be the next "hyper-IC" idea, selling temporary enchants as permanent?

And for the record, you can still sell poisoned consumables through player interaction, and that actually is evil RP, unlike couple of clicks at Mudd with a disguised name.

Exactly. Perhaps the player that initiated this, actually is seeking this reaction by the PC/NPC population?

If we just "fix" NPC mechanics issues, without ANY IG/IC moment or event related to it, it just makes NPCs even less interesting, more dumb, even less reactive in any sense or even useful to RP except when a DM is willing to inhabit that NPC. BORING.

Yeah, in a perfect game every little action of PCs would be met with an amazing, in-depth and instant reaction of the world they exist in. But I hate to break it to you, this is just not feasible because of technical limitiation and DM/dev availability.

Rumor has it that Mudd, the famed CONSIGNMENT HOUSE merchant, is up-in-arms over the discovery that once reliable sources of potions supplied on consignment, have been discovered to be, in no pleasant terms, poisoned. This discovery by said poisoned individuals and others with the magical skills to identify and neutralize similar examples acquired from many of Mudd's outlets upon the Sword Coast, has been hailed by Mudd himself as a "blessing," as additionally according to Mudd, himself saying "...it could have become o so very worse..." and "...my business depends on the adventurers of the Sword Coast standing behind my word, that I give backing up what must be an honest description of any goods submitted to my consignment ledger."

Who knew Mudd could be so thoughtful...and, so wordy?!?!

It is rumored that Mudd himself has put out a coin reward to those individuals that can "unmask" this perpetrator, because according to Mudd, his consignment ledger contains a name, yet, this name is unreliable at best, perhaps a clue, but nothing can be done without admittance of what is said to be a heinous crime against the Living. Thus, only one practicing Necromancy with willful evil intention, could be the culprit.

Many adventurers, merchants and customers have spoken their desire to solve this crime. Mudd, again speaking loudly and often as of late to assuage his customers and shake off this negative affect to his otherwise reliable business, has stated that FROM NOW ON, ALL POTIONS SUBMITTED FOR CONSIGNMENT WILL UNDERGO DIRECT, MAGICAL NEUTRALIZATION, in a likely constant, successful means to prevent such from occurring, again.

With that, Mudd personally was seen for the next Tenday handing out free Heal potions, with variably a seal of guarantee from different suppliers, that being the Red Wizards of Baldur's Gate, the monks of Candlekeep, and some other approved lesser suppliers.

At this point in the story, Mudd finally says: "...but if you don't like the taste, my goodman and goodwoman...take it up with the source. I do not drink the stuff myself."

You're welcome.

as someone who went to the bar with surfacers who came down to the UD for whatever reason on my assassin (you can see where this is going already huh? ;) ) and bought everyone drinks and poisoned the two surfacers drinks, one of which failed the DC and other passed and said it had a tangy flavor to it while the other drow just looked at me at like seriously? to which my reply was simply "what?"

i fully support the use of poisons for their intended purpose of.... poisoning people! :ugeek:

detect/neutralize poisons are great spells guys... any who remembers cazna may or may not remember that if cazna was offered a drink from anyone she always took it to be nice but then would always cast neutralize poison before drinking it, she never took the risk and no one else really does that and its sad

be afraid of taking drinks from strangers yo :?

but shadera has or has attempted to poison quite a few people when i was playing her a lot because well, poisons are fun :D
everyone is evil till proven otherwise
