RUMORS OF THE SWORDCOAST MASTERPOST
 
The BGTSCC rumor threads are a narrative means to communicate and/or share occurrences throughout the setting, that player actions and reactions may further impact the world around them. Utilized to enhance both player and character immersion, this can be anything from unusual changes in the environment, to enigmatic figures or remnant magics, and more. It is important to note that anything posted in these threads are considered accessible in-character knowledge, with a tendency to spread from their place of origin over time (rather than be constrained by it).

Useful techniques to consider when posting rumors:
Hidden: show
  • Keep it relevant - select a few key points and make them the focus (ie: time of day, distinguishing features, action, effect or impact, etc).
  • Avoid excessive dialogue - a poignant line sticks well in the mind and is best when limited to a few words or a sentence. The totality of a song's lyrics or an entire conversation between two people is less likely to be recalled than the tone of the interaction.
  • Refrain from inner thoughts and feelings - much like emotes, people won't know what they're thinking unless its conveyed through action and expression. Long form posts about a character's actions and/or how they are feeling and reacting are better suited to character journals and stories or applicable roleplay threads.
  • Don't share anything you don't want people to hear - rumors are for people to know. If it happened in some far off cave with little-to-no evidence and no way for the knowledge to circulate, it probably doesn't belong here unless there is some trace of activity left behind that might impact the area.
  • Avoid spamming threads(*) - the Western Heartlands and Rumors of Events span the entirety of the server, with North and South similarly covering each region. Consider posting once in the corresponding thread, rather than multiple times in various locales.
  • Abstain from god-modding - Whilst players should be mindful of NPCs, it is considered god-modding to write their attributed actions/reactions unless approved by a DM. Similarly it is a courtesy to avert from writing about another player's character without their approval, and/or events you did not personally witness.
  • Entertain the mystery - consider that a rumor can also be used as a hook to generate RP, encouraging others to find you for the full details.
The purpose of this post is the cumulation of all rumor threads for easy access and reference, listed definitively as seen below.

  • Rumors of the Northern Sword Coast - Thundars Ride, Northen Tradeway, Forest of Wyrms, Fields of the Dead, Winding Waters, Corm Orp, Greypeaks, Sunset Vale, etc.
  • Rumors of Soubar - the lawless village of Soubar, inclusive of the Winding Way tavern and immediate surrounding area.
  • Rumors of Triel - the village of Triel, Trielta Hills, and surrounding areas.
Underdark:
  • Rumors of Sshamath - the Drow city of Sshamath or the "City of Dark Weavings" and its many districts.
  • Rumors of the Upperdark - the first 3 miles below the surface, inclusive of the Blue Latern Keep (formerly Rockrun).
  • Rumors of the Underdark - the subterranean caves, caverns, and tunnels located deep beneath the surface of the Sword Coast.
