Elements of House Marshall make their own plans concerning the impending battle for the fate of River's End. A trio make a subtle visit to River's End, bearing no heraldry, house colors, or other distinguishing marks that would otherwise imply their allegiance to outside forces. Together then, using prior knowledge of the tunnel network located beneath the city, with a known entrance being by the glowing tree, they work with the local security and nALF forces to start trying to scout out and map the tunnels directly beneath the city.

Fearing an imminent attack by underground forces, Alexander Marshall, Vanira Dunn, and Michael Dunn approach the tunnel network located by the great glowing tree of River's End. Therein, they attempt to discern just how vast the network of tunnels is, and its complexity.

Attempts would then be made to either close off the tunnels via feats of engineering and smokepowder, or, failing that, on how to better shore up defenses beneath the township by preparing traps and improvised hazards for any attacking force.
DM Mimic Note: The success of this effort will be determined in game!
The efforts here yielded answers, new questions, and choices to be made by the defenders.

Nose in the books, and magic at the table

Within a tower, a while's away from River's end in Doron Amar. An Elf Bladesinger, Elyssa Symbaern is in the tower, continuing her research attempting to build upon her previous work on the deconversion protocols and complex magic she had learned about, that gave her a distinctive edge to deconversion magics. Most of it was spent searching for ways to bolster against the actual attempts of active conversions made during a wartime effort, so one would be warded with additional protections from conversions.

She studies with a vigor, hoping to gain a sizable advantage towards the magical efforts in the conflict for the Mystran church. Be they spells, charms or gems, or trinkets one could carry in a way to better ones individual defences against conversion to the Black Sun, or again further the depth of her learning to deconvert the afflicted people.

Priorly she was unable to teach the efforts to others, because of the complexities. Mayhap this time, she hoped the chances for a better solution.

DM Mimic Note: After exhaustive days of study, Elyssa would come to the conclusion that there is nothing further she can glean in the short time before the attack beyond what she has already learned.

A curious pair return for a day or two at River's End, gathering up who they could of those that refuse to leave their homes, yet have no skill or inclination for a fight. They offer first aid classes at the Triage area the Sunite Hospitalier has set up.

Naer'eanque offers classes on splinting sprained and broken limbs, placing them back into positions of comfort, or the ability to walk on a broken ankle with appropreate bindings, the use of herbs and poltices on wounds to stem bleeding. While Alyssia offers how to wrap and bandage wounds, how to spot a severe bleed in a cut and pack it with bandages while applying a tournaquet tight enough that the pulsing blood stops. Together they also demonstrate how to make stretchers and place the wounded on it, two poles, cloth stretched between, long enough that a person can lay on it and have enough for two handles, both carriers face the same direction, the person at the head calls when to lift and move together.

They both warn the task will be bloody, and heavy, and not many might be able to perform the task at hand. Simply to do your best, and seek out healers in the field should they feel out of depth or can no longer act under the pressures of seeing loved ones hurt, injured, and potentially dying.

DM Mimic Note: The townsfolk are better equipped to tend the wounded in the aftermath of the battle! If Naer'eanque undertakes this effort, she will find that she has stretched herself to her limit on top of everything else she has contributed to the town's defense. She will earn a level of exhaustion, which will have repercussions in the battle's aftermath!

Posting this at 11pm PST, so still the 19th! :P

With so much happening in the city and its immediate surroundings, Runa's actions may seem muted and small, but the small causes are exactly what concern her.

While the city and its people find support from so many adventurers and organizations, the Eldathyn druid first looks to the natural world around it. Through the use of her druidic abilities, she may Speak with Plants and Animals to warn them of the impending conflict and offer aid as well as refuge.

Through druidic divination such as Weather Eye, the eldathyn would spread word of what the weather will look like in the coming days up until the conflict, so that people may prepare accordingly.

In the town proper, she would offer prayers of peace to any that wished it. She'd aid in shedding away fear from those that seem concerned, especially women and children. Maybe more tangibly, she'd help folks stock potable water.

Beyond the above, Runa offers aid to the Triage Area set up by the Sunite. In order to not overlap knowledge with Naer's and Alyssia's teachings, the druid instead focuses in teaching prevention and survival: how to find safe food in the wild, what to do if you encounter a wild animal, how to recognise and/or establish a safe camp, how to build a fire for warmth and safety (and remembering to always make sure you put it out), how to find clean water, as well as how to keep oneself and others emotionally resilient and stable.

DM Mimic Note: Runa would discern that the weather is clear in the coming days. Runa's other efforts bolster the town's morale!

I am still working through everything I have to respond to, but I wanted to post and officially declare that due to how the narrative is playing out, no more preparations can be made after this point. Also, I want to remind everyone that NPC forces committed to this battle will have a chance of being slain and therefore lost. If you were not aware of this and want to make adjustments, you have until the end of the day on Friday, June 26, to let me know.

Thank you for your interest in this plot! Looking forward to seeing how the battle will unfold on July 5, 2026 at 1700 GMT!

In the days following the battle, a battered Virin remains a subtle yet persistent presence in what's left of River's End. While she spends much of her time resting in random corners, quietly recovering from the physical and psychological exhaustion of the hours-long siege by the Cyricists, she still goes out of her way not to be a burden on the survivors: Her magical items allow her to survive with nothing but a quiet spot to sleep, and whatever meagre strength and coordination she can still muster are made available to the locals for cleanup and repairs.

The broken redhead would not be above borrowing a change of clothes if possible, though, her own outfit having been reduced to tattered rags until she can talk one of the mages into sparing a spell to patch it up. Her mithral chainshirt, now plainly visible under the remains of her shirt, did not escape unscathed either: Many of the gleaming links are blackened by fire and acid, and it is a testament to its quality (and the magic of the cultists) that the armor remains whole despite the myriad wounds suffered by its wearer during the fighting.

Eventually, as the chaos settles and her body and soul are sufficiently mended to face the trials ahead of her, Virin wanders out of the town, just as unceremoniously as she first arrived. Those witnessing her departure may notice she does not head back whence she came, west towards Baldur's Gate, but into the north: She is seen one last time, spending a night in Kraak Helzak, and though future years may see scattered rumors of a helpful wanderer dedicating her kind deeds to the Commons, she is not seen again in these parts...

(What a way to go out! And she actually lived to see retirement, after years of feeling the death gods breathing down her neck... :o)

The battle had ended and quiet began to take hold of the town, as the last of the monsterous forces fled the battlefield. All too soon the sound of weeping and cries for help could be heard as the wounded reached out for comfort and aid, as the civilians began to move among the town and witnessed the destruction and death. Among the hazy air, filled with smoke and cinder, the Knight-Lord Lyonaler would move about the ruined walls and buildings of Rivers End. Through the din and smoke he sought those who had fallen. He sought his House soldiers and the Mercenaries he had hired to come to this place of death, but had stood and fought with tenacity and bravery.
House Lyonaler soldiers took out many more enemies than most but at a heavy cost. Of the 11 soldiers that departed for River's End, only 6 returned to Radiant Crossing.
Mercenaries from the Masquerade Court fought valiantly but suffered significant losses. Only 2 of the 5 mercenaries would return to Baldur's Gate, including Rafe Landers, their commander.
Calling those who looked to him for leadership in this battle, he tended to the wounds of those who had survived. For those who had fallen in the conflict, his soldiers gathered them. Each was placed with care, lined in a row. Upon each body's chest Diamonds were laid. Asking his men who stood with him to offer their prayers in support, he approached each, one at a time, and knelt beside the fallen. With each one he removed a Red Ruby-cut Knight Chess Piece, his most prized possession, his Holy Symbol of the Red Knight. Gifted to him for pleasing his Lady for his actions during the Amn-Auril War, he began to speak the words of a Resurrection prayer. The prayer repeated over and over. As he began to speak the words, a bright light would glow from his eyes, moving down his body and into his arm, then hand that rested upon a fallen. The power andlight would flow and leave his body, entering that of the fallen, one by one. When done with the monumental task of attempting to return the spirts of the fallen back into their bodies, he would slump down, breathing heavy and watched to see if any would find their way to return to the living to be greeted by commrades once more.

Bill Paterson and the mobile bank is quick on the scene after the fight is done assessing damage here and there checking on survivors and those owners who did not.

He adds teams of writing to his ledgers apparently confirming some earlier entries about damage and expected outcomes

He seemed to have pre prepared financial packages for this exact set of circumstances

The terrible loss of life temporary or otherwise is not lost on him as he watches heroes at work with collections of diamonds he makes a note of casualties and next of kin his own collection of diamonds not so far from sight but hidden for now nonetheless

He watches carefully lest the dangers have not entirely passed

But dally he does hoping the bank can yet be of service

As the din and the chaos of battle settled and people were able to look around more than their immediate area, Derik Ranloss would breathe a heavy sigh.

As often as he had done this, this part never got easier.

He was plattered by the blood and ichor of the enemies that met him in the fight, adorning his armor. It would sizzle on the blade of Warwake had it not already been cooked off by the intense heat of the weapon's heart. Another sigh and he sheathes the weapon into the scabbard along his back. The Tempurian's first duty and task was to check on his dead, making sure their bodies were retrieved and handled with respect as is proper for those who died in honorable battle.

Coordinating with Adrian, Nick, and the other guards, the bodies would be placed in the wagon that had brought the weaponry for the militia for return to the Foundation and their families, to be interred as the families see fit.

Meeting with the Militia commander for the last time, Derik would discuss the battle with them, then slowly, the wagon and its cargo is maneuvered across the damaged and ruinous township and along the nearby road he and the surviving Foundation guards escort it on the long trip back to the Lion's Way.

The Chant is made, led by the Headmaster, for the fallen of the Foundation of course, but it is started as the wagon traverses through the town, calling out to all that had fought and fallen, now on their way to the reward of the Honored Dead.

All Hail the Honored Dead.
All Hail the Warriors.
Let their deeds never be forgotten.
Let their stand be forever remembered.

All Hail the Honored Dead.
All Hail the Warriors.
Remember now and forever their sacrifice.
Remember now their duty.

All Hail the Honored Dead.
All Hail the Warriors.
In times to come, their victory stands.
In times to come, live in it.

All Hail the Honored Dead.
All Hail the Warriors.
For though they fell in battle dread,
The Purpose has been Won.
