A young adult halfling man is given a tour around the hamlet of Corp Orp by the recently married Tosscobble ladies. It appears that they are attempting to convince him to relocate from Baldur's Gate with his mum. Given his obvious destitute state it looks like the family is more a charity case than anything for the halfling ladies. Discussion is joined regarding trades and after some back and forth the boy volunteers that his great grandad kept bees and that he might like to try his hand at that if the community, particularly the farmers, might find that useful. They secure him a room at the inn and caravan passage back to Baldur's Gate in order to return and attempt to convince his mother to move.

The Hungry Halfling Inn

“Do you wish me a good morning,
or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not;
or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?”

― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Hobbit

Image

Corm Orp was a place of Halflings, and few humans. But just out side along the Dusk Roads near the Sunset Mountains and the Dark Vale, there was an Inn called the Hungry Halfling. The Hungry Halfling Inn is a favorite of traders who travel the Dusk Road. They like its quiet, slightly shabby rooms because they're peaceful and feel like home. The staff see that the rooms are always fully furnished with writing paper, spare boot thongs in the walk-in cloak closets, old slippers in a variety of sizes for wear around the inn, a few bottles of fruit liqueur and mintwater for late-night thirst quenching; sharpening stones for weapons, spare candles and wicks and all the other useful clutter found in one's own home. Much of this stuff does get borrowed by the needy but then, that's what it's there for. A Inn with warm hearty food, and the mirth of the little folks in the region.

Image

But...When you have people from Roaringshore pay it a visit and holding an after wedding party, such an Inn is anything but quiet..

Volstagg: WOOOO!

Sel: HUZZAH!

Drink where slashed around! Even poured on a pair of nearly naked dancing men! The Inn knew nothing of quite this day! A hot roast smoking in the dinning floor while patrons danced and drank away! Halflings with first look of shock couldn't help but soon join into the fray and the many soon danced away!

Image

As the Inn Keeper took advantage and ensured the roasting boar was juicy and seared, patrons lost themselves from wine and ale, if it wasn't being poured on people! Volstagg and Sel, two known figures of the Broken Goblet dances drunkenly and wildly putting on a ravishing show ! Newlyweds happy and beaming with glee at the celebration of their union! One table even had rats that ate to their bellies was full, and drank until they too pasted out!

Image

One of the newlyweds even took up her loot and played a song to give efforts into the celebration!

"But with you, by my side...
... you're the reason I'm alive.
But without you... without you...
But without you... without you...
... without you my hope is small..
I could face any mountain.. but I could never climb alone.."

Ree: *She gives Terra a hug between songs* You played the song *she smiles* your so amazing!

Yuutsu Nezumi: *She grabs one of her rats on the table, it is her old roughed up Rat* That-that is our captain yes-yes..... "

Sel : "Wots wrong girls? Yer nae had a weddin unless yer get a Goblet Dancin!" *He barks a laugh*

Volstagg: Bahaaa!

Passerby's , traders, and mere travelers, would surely have heard the loud carousing taking place from within the Hungry Halfling Tavern that night. Any of those that had paid it a visit, would gasp as they seen patrons dance along with a human man and a half orc , stripped down in their underwears and covered in drink , dancing like mad fools....for those that new the pair would simply say..

"This is wot you called being Gobleted."
Thank you DM Wisp!

The Wedding: Ree & Terra Tosscobble
Love and excitement was in the air as Ree and Terra were wed at the Ladyhouse temple in Corm Orp. With their announcement made just a few days prior, both friends of new and old joined in support of the two little Hins to usher in the next chapter of their lives as a lovingly married couple.
Image
With their good friend Sugar Applebottom helping them both get ready for their big day, things went off without a hitch despite the weather unwilling to cooperate-- Ree decided in her mind that the rain was just the Gods crying happy tears of joy.
Image
Emotions were high with an amazing and heartfelt ceremony by Sel Darkmore, where "Ree" became "Ree Tosscobble" a happy and loving wife to "Terra Tosscobble". The two little hins had been best friends for the upwards of 13 years, and today was their special day where they officially tied the knot.
Image
The words they had been eagerly awaiting 'you may now kiss your bride' were spoken, turning an otherwise amazing night into a surreal dream like experience.
Image
The two, along with their friends, happily strolled towards the Hungry Halfling Inn, enjoying the lovely dancing lightshow the rain created as if the universe itself was celebrating their achievement.
Image
Arriving at the Inn, where food was abound and drinks were flowing, a beautiful musical performance was put on by none other than Terra Tosscobble. It wasn't long before love and passion had filled the room with each individual embracing it in their own way.
Image
The two couldn't of been happier with how things turned out as it was truly a wonderful night and one they would never forget.
(( a huge heartfelt Thank you to all that attended. I know I have one of the harder time-zones to accommodate as very few are typically online when I can play so I really appreciate taking the time to RP with us. Also Thank You Sel for the amazing post right above this one! You did, and always do, so much for us, words cannot even explain how grateful I am :romance-inlove: ))

The first rays of 24 Tarsakh 1360 rise to show a gruesome sight. On the Trade Way north of Beregost, right near the shrine of Mielikki, the broken remains of a local sellsword were discovered. The man, Tomar Meynolt, born and raised in a farm near Beregost itself, was found mauled by what looked like a giant, clawed monster, and drained of all life, until he was reduced to a shriveled, broken husk.
The main evidence that the attack was not just the result of a wild beast having the better of the young warrior, is the inscription carved on the bent remains of his plate armor:

For thou, mother of solemn woe,
Unveiled the truth, though seldom seen,
That life's but a fleeting, futile dance,
A cosmic jest, a cruel happenstance.

O fleeting joys, and hollow dreams,
All drown in life's relentless streams,
No respite from this endless night,
Where darkness reigns, and shadows bite.

Image

The body would be eventually carried back to the man's hometown, and failing attempts to revive it, be allowed to be buried according to the wishes of Tomar's family.

Under the heavy clouds, Ryke Lighthouse and Lunaethar Silverbloom performed two simultaneous rituals, one calling to Valkur, another to Selune. With their united efforts, it seemed as if the storms abated.

Soon, a big gathering of folks came together, and they departed into the forests. Not long after this, the storms mysteriously vanished ...

Blood.

An unquenchable hunger.

The blessing of the Blood Moon had filled the tiefling with restlessness. He felt primal, and attuned. And yet also addled with an unquenchable thirst. Cleave and sunder. Rupture and burst. Smear and jet of blood. His battleaxe and shapeshifted claws tore through duergar, wyvern, and beast alike - and he drank of their blood with desperate abandon. Creatures rendered as play things for reckless violence.

His spirit guide - a terrible and dark lupine - had never been so fulfilled. Ecstatic relief in the name of the Beastlord. Fitting tributes and endless supplication. A reign of terror upon the coast. It had all been leading to this.

--

And then it ended.

The Blood Moon receded, and Cuth's blessing was no more. Worse than a hangover, with patchy memories. But clarity in feeling; distinct impressions of being alive. As nights passed, the tiefling watched the moon with a doe-eyed expression. A sense of longing for the Blood Moon. One might have felt sympathy until they were reminded of his heinous savagery. A pitiful creature. Still, he hunted, but it no longer felt so thrilling. Like stale bread after a noble's feast.

O to have tasted supreme bloodthirst! The hunger was unending but the bounty rich and flavourful. Metallic, salty taste. Without the Beastlord's blessing, reduced to beige and scraps.

Still, one persists. One must survive. In the end, one will be prey - the weak will die and the strong will endure until they are no longer. Not yet, too soon! The spirit demands more. More blood, always more. Blood leaks from his eyes as he gives over his vigour to the terrible beast in exchange for powerful magic. He consumes the blood of the slain in tribute. Only then, sanity. One can laugh and dream of mundane things. Until the hunger sets in.

--

But then the storm came.

The Furies are pissed off. And so they should be - the arrogance of locals who question their reign. Or perhaps... perhaps Malar had his fill and Talos became jealous and wanted more? Never enough.

Storm pressed on. And yet a tinge of concern betwixt bloodthirsty hunts. After all, endless rain will damage the hunt. The prey will drown. Forests will be cleaved by flash floods. The folk will starve - a good winnowing of the venerable, at least - but perhaps the Storm Lord has carried on too much? One can only supplicate his rage. A dog dare not bite its master's hand.

Image

Two Malarites and an initiate third renewed a grove with purpose. Daft druids who forget the true dangers of nature and cultivate an artificial oasis. In its place, a fitting shrine to the Storm Lord; harbinger of the true destructive capacity of nature. The truth of nature. A cackle of lightning and priest of Talos appeared to guide a tribute of freshly carved gnoll hearts. A Hoarite's ironic contribution to destruction with thrown bombs on the ritual; poetic injustice. Cuth raised his electrified axe to the sky declaring the supremacy of the Storm Lord and the Beastlord. Divine ecstasy, bordering jouissance.

The tiefling, though. Deep down? A coward. A desperate coward. When the Hound appears to dispose of the Black-Blooded acolytes, the horned one disappears. All too much to bear. The spirit in his ear, the flash of thunder, the site of vengeance.

Disappear. A tiefling always learns to disappear, or they do not survive.

--

Agony and torment.

The spirit keeps its jaws on the tiefling's throat - demanding blood. A failure for fleeing. Cuth desperately supplicates.

Afraid?
Yes.

Thrilled?
Absolutely.

Mad?
For having let this spirit control him.

Bloodthirsty?
It will never be like the blessing... or can it be? Could he somehow feel the blessing again? If only for a night. Once more... please? I want to feel alive. I need it. No, only a dog begs. A beast takes what it wants.

And the hunter inevitably becomes hunted. A dog hunted by a hound. Nothing new. Always been hunted.

The spirit's jaws press down on his throat. Searing pain. A bloody tribute to appease. The storm finishes, but the hunt never ends.

/////

OOC note: a mix of things here others might have observed in game (and also partly reporting on the tribute to Talos at the Grove). Other parts are more internal to the character. The writing reflects Cuth's impressions.

The rain had stopped. But the damage still remained.

Over the last few days, members of the Green Enclave can be seen moving into and out of their sacred grove that had been blasted by Talos. Some could see them there sometimes, and those with more keen eyes or ears could see them there nearly always. They watched, holding vigils, praying. Songs could be heard on occasion, often accompanied by a lute.

The Enclave members began salvaging what they could of the site. Rocks and stones began to be cleaned up and moved. Broken statues were carted away for storage elsewhere.

The Enclave was not alone in their vigils. Allies constantly showed up to offer their aid in the endeavor. Plans were made. People were reached out to. Captain Vanira could be seen speaking with Archdruid Emmanuel near the destroyed grove.

There was a determination in the air. Though the battle had been lost for the time being, this was not the end. All in cycle. Balance would be restored. The Guardian could be heard saying to someone, "Our second home might have been broken, but our spirits have not been."

Word spreads around the region of Elturel, Greenest, Baldur's Gate and other surrounding hamlets and settlements in the area around the Radiant Crossing Fort and Bridge, the Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart banners have been removed from the property. The soldiers that once bore the symbol of the Order of the Radiant Heart, now show signs of a new House. Soldiers move about the Fort placing markings of "House Lyonaler". The banners depict a Lion standing before two crossed swords, the motto below it reading "Faith, Family, Fortitude".

The unclaimed lands surrounding Radiant Crossing are now being patrolled in service to the interest of both Baldur's Gate and Elturel. Word is, soldiers who once served in the Auxiliary of the Radiant Heart, still loyal to their once Grand Knight, and now released from service, are taking up with the new House Lyonaler. These soldiers will continue to escort travellers and caravans entering Ducal lands from the east, patrol the region to remove monsters and other threats, and serve as a rest spot for the weary. There is discussion of creating a training school for military leaders and soldiers that will be set up in the fort when construction can be done.

Several days after the fact, unsubstantiated rumors have begun to circulate of an attack along the River Chionthar.

Though information is dubiously scarce due to a lack of eye witnesses, attributed gossip shares a common theme of anti-tiefling banditry and the attempted poach of sentient beings.

Over the last few days, voices could be heard coming from the desolate grove along the Lion's Way. If any passersby were to divert and check up on the voices, they would find the grove empty with the voices ceasing. Those of keener sight might catch a glimpse of a tall, green haired man making his way back north into the Cloakwood.
