Race: Aasimar
Image
Age: Twenty-One (Physically, twenty-two, due to time-travel effects)
Image
Height: 5'2" (~158 cm)
Weight: 110 lbs. (~50 kg)
Image
Skin: Fair (Some abdominal scars, kept concealed)
Hair: White-Blonde, Wavy
Eyes: Slate Blue
Image
Handedness: Right
Image
Posture: Straight-backed, prim, non-fidgety
Image
General Health: Average
Hygiene: Well-groomed; daily baths; frequently laundered clothes and well-maintained travel gear; healthy and clean skin, teeth, hair, and nails
Scent: A perfume that combines notes of gardenia and violets with a touch of jasmine.

Image

A quick glance reveals...

...that this young woman appears to be in her late teens or early twenties. She carries an unadorned leather travel satchel, and glimpses of weaponry - a shortbow and quiver, a longsword scabbard attached to a belt upon mithril plate, and a heavy wooden shield - can be noticed when she is armored.

Regardless of her attire, she always wears a prominent symbol upon her upper left arm: an insignia that denotes her affiliation to Candlekeep.

A closer inspection shows...

...that she is small in stature. She appears to stand 5'2" (~158 cm) and weigh 110 lbs. (~50 kg) sans armor.

...that there is a pristine gold book, whose cover features an inlaid scroll symbol, kept securely attached to her waist by a sturdy gold chain. Every now and again, a glimpse of pale blue-green light emits from the obviously magical item. Special: faithful of Oghma might feel the presence of their patron when near the tome.

...that there is a small silver cowbell tied to her travel satchel with blue and silver strings. When the satchel moves, a merry tinkle sounds.

When she speaks...

...her ariose voice carries a mild Waterdhavian accent that has been tempered by time spent elsewhere. Anyone familiar with the regional dialects of the City of Splendors could identify her as hailing from the Castle Ward, while those familiar with the dialects of Cormyr might realize that she has lived for a time in Suzail.

Within a close proximity...

...the subtle scent of her perfume, which combines notes of gardenia and violets with a hint of jasmine, can be detected.

...tipped ears - indicative of a heritage that is not quite human - can be discerned amidst the platinum tendrils.

...the slate blue color of her eyes can be noticed.

These are a selection of the many items that the scribe either carries within her magical travel satchel or wears upon her person. (Ordered from longest possessed to shortest.)

Well-Worn Leather Notebook
Hidden: show
Image
Although the leather cover has long been cracked and worn throughout years of use, the scribe is hesitant to replace her prized personal possession. The notebook is her life's blood; it is her main source of documentation, inspiration, and observation. Of all the items the young woman claims, this is one of the most important - and the one from which she is loath to part. Only one other person, Eldarian Al'maire, has ever been entrusted with its complete contents. (27th Eleasis, 1344 D.R.)

Blizzard's Hail
Hidden: show
Image
The stylish composite short-bow is made from a combination of white dragon bones, ironwood, and silver. Its string is fashioned from finely braided silken strands that end in a small platinum piece attached to the ends. Intricate patterns are carved into the surface of the beautiful, deadly weapon; they depict a snow storm fiercely crashing against a mountainside. (17th Alturiak, 1352 D.R.)

Raider's Wraps
Hidden: show
Image
The fingerless archer's gloves were recovered from a trove of long-forgotten relics in an ancient Shoon Imperium tower during a trek to destroy a powerful artifact. The inherent magical energy within the gloves bolster the bard in a variety of ways, and she is quite fond of the practicality of the item. (8th Kythorn, 1352 D.R.)

Hardcover Notebook
Hidden: show
Image
The elegant, hard leather cover of this notebook is the very reason why the scribe is hesitant to write within its pages, as she deems it 'too pretty' to use. Still, as the item is a gift from her dear friend Medune Norman, the scribe occasionally writes upon the crisp parchments for special transcriptions or letters. (3rd Flamerule, 1352 D.R.)

Leather Quiver
Hidden: show
Image
The sturdy vessel, a gift from Michael Dunn for her twentieth nameday, prominently features the symbol of Oghma amidst the other golden swirls and designs etched upon a metallic plate. (27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Masterwork Lute
Hidden: show
Image
This magnificent lute, a creation of Yllanis Loralyassa, features hand-detailed etchings of griffons in flight - one of the many sights that Alexandra enjoyed as young girl in Waterdeep. The instrument was a belated Winter Solstice gift from Wesmille Groston. (26th Nightal, 1352 D.R.)

Silver Cowbell
Hidden: show
Image
"It is a cowbell. We put them on livestock so we can hear them wandering off. Now, are we going to have to tie a bell to you to keep track of you?" - Nezkreal Sezifear, explaining her solution to the 'problem' of Alexandra's unnoticed arrivals and departures from Candlekeep. (28th Nightal, 1352 D.R.)

Bibli Family Blade
Hidden: show
Image
The elegant, fiery longsword was donated to the library by Hazel Jynx, who recovered it and other weapons from the forces of self-proclaimed 'Grand Duke' Xander De'Cardi of Sembia. (2nd Alturiak, 1353 D.R.)

Divine Book of Oghma
Hidden: show
Image
This deity-created artifact is an item that Alexandra has been charged by Oghma to guard for the rest of her life. When it was still tainted by Shezgorath the Harkener, its presence in her life tested her faith, her willpower, and her alliances. The woman of Candlekeep was determined to unravel its mystery, and her dogged perseverance earned her validation most high. Subsequently, the tome is the most valuable of her possessions. (5th Alturiak, 1353 D.R.)

Golden Coin of Hoar
Hidden: show
Image
The symbol of faith was offered as both a token of friendship as well as an unspoken promise by Gunthar. The Guide carries it in a small pouch attached to her belt. (4th Kythorn, 1353 D.R.)

Image

These are items that have sentimental significance to the young woman, although she does not keep them with her for whatever reason. Some items are on display in her office; some items are stored within various cabinets and chests. (Ordered from longest possessed to shortest.)

Candle of Hope
Hidden: show
Image
During the first month of her life in Baldur's Gate, when she was too inexperienced to aid in the excursions against the undead host, Alexandra was given an otherwise simple task by Onna'Evatril Moonwhisper: keeping alive the flame on a candle meant to 'light the way home' for the brave adventurers. The newcomer diligently performed the task, waiting until the last of the combatants returned, and the holder in which the candle once burned is now a treasured memento of a friend who has since departed the region. (19th Nightal, 1351 D.R.)

Thayan Jewelry Box
Hidden: show
Image
Within the possession of the young woman is a lavish box of Thayan make and design that has been filled to the brim with colorful, ornate pieces of jewelry. Necklaces, earrings, rings, bracelets, brooches, and hair combs - all gilded and set with expensive gemstones - are neatly arranged within the extravagant case. Most of the items have gone unworn. (21st Nightal, 1351 D.R.)

Preserved Snowflake
Hidden: show
Image
Magically created glass encases a solitary snowflake that has been suspended in perfect animation. (31st Nightal, 1351 D.R.)

Devotion to the Snowflake
Hidden: show
Image
This delicate gold ring has a filigree design that shows waves at the bases of mountains. In the midst of the setting is a brilliant white stone cut and carved to represent snow. The scribe once wore the jewel upon the fourth finger of her right hand. (24th Hammer, 1352 D.R.)

Winter's Bite
Hidden: show
ImageImage
The masterfully crafted rapier was once kept sheathed on her left side when not in use. The polished, silvery blade is cold to the touch and features the name of the weapon engraved in stylish calligraphy meant to resemble shards of ice. The platinum knuckle guard has a solitary diamond mounted in its center, while elaborate runes near the pommel indicate the magical enhancements. (5th Alturiak, 1352 D.R.)

Winter's Veil
Hidden: show
Image
A pure white gown, created from the finest silk and lace in all of Faerûn, hangs untouched in the wardrobe of Alexandra's quarters in Candlekeep. Shimmering silver threads are interwoven into the crystalline bodice and gossamer train; the ensemble is easily something that a noblewoman would wear to a gala. (5th Alturiak, 1352 D.R.)

Winter's Stride
Hidden: show
Image
These light brown leather boots are simple but well-made. They have no fancy designs or pretentious markings. The soles are flexible but sturdy, and the heels do not click upon even the hardest of stone floors. Inside the boots is a lightweight padding that keeps feet warm and comfortable. (17th Alturiak, 1352 D.R.)

Rune-Marked Greenstone
Hidden: show
Image
This greenstone has a pattern of polished black edges and a unique rune marking on one side. The opposite side features a tree engraved into the surface. The peculiar stone was handed to Alexandra by by Yas Shara for unknown reasons. (2nd Ches, 1352 D.R.)

Christopher
Hidden: show
Image
The hardy philodendron was already in the Seeker's Quarters of Candlekeep when Alexandra moved there, but the plant became an odd sort of confidante during the long nights that the young woman worked on reports and missives. Upon her promotion to Guide, Alexandra decided to bring the plant - by now named Christopher in honor of a famed Oghman priest - with her. The touch of greenery upon her desk still brings Alexandra comfort. (9th Tarsakh, 1352 D.R.)

Holy Symbol of Mystra
Hidden: show
Image
Upon the silver chain of this delicately crafted amulet is the representation of an eight-pointed star. The symbol is portrayed in polished silver that has been well-tended, although age is evident from small nicks and notches that can be noticed upon closer inspection. (7th Mirtul, 1352 D.R.)

Crimson Blanket
Hidden: show
Image
This vibrant cashmere blanket is trimmed with soft black leather that has silver zig-zagged stitches designed to resemble lightning bolts. At the very center of the fabric is an elaborate design of what appears to be a trio of roiling thunderclouds. During the worst days of her illness, Alexandra stayed huddled in this treasured item. (25th Kythorn, 1352 D.R.)

Book of Assorted Poems
Hidden: show
Image
A multitude of hand-written, original poems are contained within this tome, which was gifted to Alexandra by Sveta (now Lysander) Asperan. (8th Flamerule, 1352 D.R.)

Alexander Marshall's Prayer Book
Hidden: show
Image
An unexpected gift from an unexpected source, this handwritten prayer book was once one of the most cherished of the tomes in her possession. (10th Flamerule, 1352 D.R.)

Renée
Hidden: show
Image
The flat of this hand-and-a-half sword was once polished to a mirrored shine, although Alexandra no longer maintains the blade. Down its length, eight stars are etched; the most elaborate one, placed near the cross-guard, is an enameled blue-white one - the symbol of Mystra. Engraved upon the opposite side is the word "Pelhujelt," the Celestial word for "beloved." Next to it is an etched scroll, the symbol of Oghma. Both the grip and the scabbard are wrapped in supple black leather.

Olrich Gaelin left this blade, a gift from the scribe to her first lover, when he left her during her sickness from
The Scorched Tome of Oghma. (18th Flamerule, 1352 D.R.)

Unicorn Portrait
Hidden: show
Image
An unexpected gift from Endelyon Castillo, this elegant work of art is worthy of display in a fine museum. Instead, it hangs in the private suite used by the Guide of Candlekeep. (19th Flamerule, 1352 D.R.)

Fife of Blasting
Hidden: show
Image
A simple but sturdy musical instrument that has magical enchantments upon it, the fife was a gift from Wesmille Groston. (29th Flamerule, 1352 D.R.)

Alexander Marshall's Cloak
Hidden: show
Image
This sturdy, fur-lined cloak was the one originally worn by Alexander Marshall and later altered to fit the much-smaller scribe. He gifted the item to her at the height of their courtship. The cloak now hangs at the back of Alexandra's wardrobe. (12th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Sing Proudly
Hidden: show
Image
This original songbook was offered to Alexandra by Solwyn Astorio as a congratulatory gift for her new courtship with Alexander Marshall. Its foreward reads as follows:

"Congratulations on your best of days!
And let joy and happiness follow you wherever you go! Don't let my sloppy movements spoil your mood ever again, and be sure to enjoy every moment of your forthcoming marriage!
And last but not least, sing proudly, Reader Keenan.
Sincerely yours, Solwyn Astorio."
(13th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Image
Tragic Ones
Hidden: show
Image
This original songbook was offered to Alexandra by Solwyn Astorio as both a congratulatory gift for her promotion to Guide of Candlekeep as well as a nameday gift. Its foreward reads as follows:

"Dear Guide Keenan! I haven't congratulated you on your promotion. I hope you will accept this book as a way to do that.
You have indeed earned the promotion. I am convinced that you will do as good, or maybe even better than our dignified Great Reader Lafreth.
I also wish you a happy nameday. Although this present will not surely be as pleasant as your promotion, one thing you can be sure of - it is sincere.
I also have you to thank you for all that you have (and many things that you will!) done for Candlekeep as Seeker, Reader, and our new Guide.
Sincerely yours,
Guard Solwyn Astorio"
(27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Flawless Diamond
Hidden: show
Image
Xelarian Cannister lured Alexandra outside of Candlekeep by telling her that her sister, Alison, was in imminent danger. The ruse revealed a surprise nameday celebration, and the rugged archer presented his gift - a flawless diamond - as a salve for startling the newly appointed Guide. (27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Masterwork Flute
Hidden: show
Image
Nerruin Ziavuil, the first person Alexandra approved as an Acolyte of Candlekeep after she was named as Guide, presented her with this ornate musical instrument crafted by the renowned Yllanis Loralyassa and stylized after Ghaele Eladrin. (27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R)

Carved Wood and Fire Opal Amulet
Hidden: show
Image
This amulet features an elegant fire opal embedded into a circular wood setting, which is comprised of three separate sections that each feature a unique engraving. The first, made from beechwood, shows two fishing hooks on entwined lines. The second, created from dark walnut, features the Eye of Neverwinter. The third, formed from red cedar, shows a partially open door.

The piece was a gift from Wesmille Groston, and the images upon it depict various events in their long-time friendship. The carvings themselves were crafted by Michael Dunn.
(27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Bone Ring
Hidden: show
Image
"It is... quite beautiful, yet it seems to have some history to it. It made me think of ye." - Ashan Wayne, upon presenting Alexandra with this replica of an 'Heirloom of Asenath.' (27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Light of the Sea
Hidden: show
Image
This dazzling Waterdhavian-crafted ring, set with obsidian and a magical blue diamond, was gifted to Alexandra by her sister, Alison, who told the new Guide: "It is a ring of light, because you now, are the light in Candlekeep." (27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Dutybound
Hidden: show
Image
This ornate greatsword has seen its share of history, for it was wielded by Alexander Marshall during the Amn-Gate War. The man presented the blade to Alexandra as a token of his affection for her. Four days later, he departed the region. (27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Oak Jewelry Box
Hidden: show

The small but elegant box, which was a gift from Liam the Golden, contains a variety of earrings that the scribe used to wear for special occasions. (27th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

Sickle of Arcane Scholar of Candlekeep's Mysteriousness
Hidden: show
Image
"You're always puzzling through mysteries, so when I found that, I thought it would be a good one for you." - Diane Evon, upon presenting a belated nameday gift to the Guide. The sickle bears minor magical enchantments and markings typically used by some of the scholars within the library fortress. The Guide has yet to solve the riddle. (30th Eleasis, 1352 D.R.)

The Book of a Thousand Curses
Hidden: show
Image
Nezkreal Sezifear presented to Alexandra an ambitious work - a collection of various regional curses that a person might use to insult someone else. Some favorites include "beef-witted boar pig," "skunk cabbage," and the very peculiar, "Laitae's mother." (24th Marpenoth, 1352 D.R.)

100 Mushrooms - to Kill or Cure
Hidden: show
Image

Sea Lion Figurine
Hidden: show
Image
"Timmy picked out a figure of a sealion. This might seem a bit unusual, but he does like Telia's version of the tale of how the sealion became the symbol of Tethyrian royalty. That tale is, alas, inaccurate." - Ameris Santraeger, via letter, explaining a gift sent to Alexandra by one of his children. (21st Nightal, 1352 D.R.)

Prayer Beads
Hidden: show
Image
"I have enclosed some prayer beads, blessed in the name of the One Who Endures. I am uncertain if you have honoured him in prayer before; whether you have or not, if you have need to speak words to him, he will listen as much or as little as is needed. Sometimes it helps." - Ameris Santraeger, via letter, explaining a gift sent to Alexandra. (21st Nightal, 1352 D.R.)

Cherry Wood Jewelry Box
Hidden: show
Image
This jewelry case is made from a deep, cherry colored wood. It is engraved with symbols of suns in their various stages. Inside is a small mirror for the user to see how the jewels accent their form, and a gentle melody plays when the crank is activated. Overall, the box is a delicate and simple thing, but one with much thought behind it. It now resides in the back of a closet and never sees the light of day. (14th Alturiak, 1353 D.R.)

Holy Symbol of Lathander
Hidden: show
Image
Upon a gold chain is the representation of a sun cresting a hillside. The image is portrayed upon a painted wood surface set with an array of rose quartz and other similar gems that emit a soft pink glow when the sunlight strikes them. Upon the back, two sets of engraved initials lovingly intertwine; the "A's" combine together to become one - "E.A. & A.K." The piece of jewelry used to be worn by the scribe. (14th Alturiak, 1353 D.R.)

Knight Card
Hidden: show
Image
The image of a knight is depicted upon a well-worn card from a "Lords and Levies" deck. Upon the back of the card are the following words: "To Alexandra Keenan, I know you are with me always, but may I also be with you. Lathander's Light, Eldarian Al'maire" (14th Alturiak, 1353 D.R.)

Black Rider Quill
Hidden: show
Image
A random, thoughtful gift from Diane Evon - just because she recognized the unique name of the weapon and thought Alexandra, a scribe, would like it. (1st Ches, 1353 D.R.)

Black Walnut Band
Hidden: show
Image
Gifted by Michael Dunn and Vala Reyer shortly after Alexandra took her clergy vows, this fine ring crafted of lacquered black walnut features a tenet of Oghman faith inscribed upon the outer surface : "Never slay a singer, nor stand by as others do so." (2nd Ches, 1353 D.R.)

Protective Talisman
Hidden: show
Image
Tarina Mazir begrudgingly fashioned this non-magical talisman at the behest of Alexandra when the Guide was pursued by the malevolent forces of Scarlett Riddle. Once the threat ended, the young woman added it to her collection of formerly worn items. (16th Ches, 1353 D.R.)

Sapphire's Flute of Charm
Hidden: show
Image
At the conclusion of the Scarlett Riddle saga, Sapphire rewarded Alexandra with a special musical instrument - a magically powerful silver flute encrusted with genuine sapphires. (5th Tarsakh, 1353 D.R.)

Portrait of Aeili Azenci
Hidden: show
Image
This gorgeous, detailed portrait awaited Alexandra after she exchanged a tearful farewell with her dear friend and mentor, Aeili Azenci. The mystical, magical oil painting allows for two-way communication for a short duration once per tenday. It hangs in the private suite granted to the Guide within the library of Candlekeep. (15th Tarsakh, 1353 D.R.)

Scrap of Parchment
Hidden: show
Image
The Guide kept this folded scrap of parchment in an inner jacket pocket that was nearest to her heart. The poem written upon it features multiple mark-throughs and corrections - a flawed thing, to be certain. It now resides in a small box along with other love notes. (29th Mirtul, 1353 D.R.)

Wooden Dragonfly
Hidden: show
Image
In an attempt to be nicer and more social, Alexandra finally spent time learning how to communicate with Teris Ynarno. The eccentric fire genasi presented her with a hand-carved wooden dragonfly for the effort. (21st Kythorn, 1353 D.R.)

Wooden Rose
Hidden: show
Image
Shortly after he rewarded the Guide for speaking with him, Teris Ynarno gifted Alexandra with a wooden rose - a gesture of friendship. (21st Kythorn, 1353 D.R.)

Silver Mug
Hidden: show
Image
This trophy mug, crafted of pure silver, features an elaborate emblem of Selûne and Her tears. Engraved below the image are the words, "To the most comical costume at the ball!" Alexandra received the item for dressing as Rain Dog Dunn during the Mischief in the Moonlight charity masquerade. (25th Kythorn, 1353 D.R.)

Potted Mushroom
Hidden: show
Image
During their very first outing together, a trip to the Upperdark, Alexandra told Cosimo Delucca that she preferred live plants over bouquets because bouquets eventually wither and die. The Balduran mage later negotiated with a local cultivator and then presented Alexandra with a potted mushroom along with detailed instructions on how to care for it. The thoughtful gesture surprised and pleased the Guide, and she dotes on the fungus with pride. The yet unnamed mushroom resides in the windowless stairwell closest to her personal suite within the library at Candlekeep. (6th Flamerule, 1353 D.R.)

Philosophy:
Image
Deities: (Ranked in order of importance.)
Image
Image Oghma: the Lord of Knowledge is most revered, and Alexandra constantly strives to pursue and record more knowledge.
Image Deneir: the Scribe of Oghma is a fitting choice for a devout scribe of Oghma, and her work with ciphers and codes has only increased her appreciation for the deity.
Image Milil: the Lord of Song is very respected by the classically trained performer, although she remains reluctant to share her songs with the public.
Image
Image Selûne: the Moonmaiden granted a boon at a long-forgotten altar, and the scribe has deeply valued the deity after the experience.
Image Sune: the Guide once felt that Lady Firehair punished her for a past mistake, and Her regional servants did naught but reinforce the concept. Once Alexandra met Cosimo Delucca, though, she bared her heart and soul to Sune and importuned forgiveness so that their love might flourish.
Image Helm: the Watcher holds a special place within the heart of the scribe, for she was privileged to work alongside some of His regional servants and unravel ancient secrets that allowed His faith to flourish in a modern era. His dedicated, unwavering stance towards His purpose is why Alexandra greatly admires Helm.
Image Torm: the Loyal Fury is respected in that the scribe has a healthy and mature sense of duty to the people that depend upon her within Candlekeep.
Image Mystra: the Mother of All Magic is respected, even if the natural arcanist does not fully comprehend the way her own talents relate to the complexities of the Weave.
Image Ilmater: the One Who Endures appeals to the often over-worked, under-appreciated Guide despite the actions of some who work in His name. Alexandra finds a modicum comfort in the notion that her personal suffering is what is needed so that Candlekeep can thrive.
Image Red Knight: the Lady of Strategy is respected, and Alexandra tries to apply practical logic and sound strategy in many of her decisions.
Image Tymora: Lady Luck earns begrudging admiration despite the fact that the ever-practical Guide places more value on careful planning instead of sheer happenstance. Still, Alexandra has experience enough lucky moments to know that Tymora cannot be ignored.
Image Hoar: the philosophy of "an eye for an eye" strikes a chord within the Guide, who occasionally finds herself writing prayers to the Doombringer and petitioning for His vengeance upon those who she feels have wronged her.
Image
Image Lathander: the Morninglord was once admired, but His regional servants have tainted the faith the Guide once placed in hope and optimism and left her with a great deal of bitterness.
Image Malar: the Beastlord earned the ire of the scribe after she and another fell victim to a savage orc attack during a Hunt. The woman came within a breath of losing her life, and she now bears long-lasting scars both physical and emotional.
Image Beshaba: Lady Doom simply must be the driving force behind a string of misfortunes in the life of Alexandra - or at least that is how the young woman feels.

Alexandra gives the appearance of a diplomatic, cordial woman who strives her best to maintain a sense of balance and neutrality in her life. In actuality, she is a reserved, guarded person who is slow to trust others. Although not a loner, she tends to keep a respectful distance - both physically and metaphorically - from others, and she is often content with her solitude. She considers herself a practical person whose place in life is in a library instead of a battlefield, although she has fought and will fight when needed.
She places little to no value upon things that many people tend to covet - such as titles, positions, prestige, material wealth, and the opinions of others. She is aware of their collective importance, though, and she will use formal titles and respectful tones in her interactions. She converses with people from all walks of life, and everyone is treated in the same manner regardless of affiliation or status. She has a keen knowledge of social expectations, and she reluctantly engages in small-talk and hollow banter when the situation requires her to do so. However, she prefers an intellectual conversation or debate as long as she is not asked to reveal her own personal views, as she is reluctant to give an opinion on subjective matters.
She does not like to be touched, although the aversion is lessened to a manageable level when near people she knows. While she will permit the lightweight touches associated with protective prayers and spells, she tends to tense and appear uncomfortable during them. She will give a handshake if a stranger initiates it, but it is rare for her to offer one first. Hugs and other close body contact are reserved for less than a handful of people that she has known for a length of time, and even then there is usually a stiff awkwardness to the gesture.

Image Not a day passes without Alexandra writing something within her ever-present notebook. She is most comfortable when it and her quill are within her hands. The occasional twitch finds its way to her fingers when social graces demand that she not scribe, and the young woman often keeps her hands tightly folded upon her lap or within her sleeves in order to maintain a sense of stillness.
Image She constantly watches and observes others as they pass, interact, or otherwise exist. When she has the opportunity, she records her observations into aforementioned notebook.
Image Her notebook is also used as a personal journal, in which she sketches and writes her thoughts and reflections. Included in these writings is a list of names that have been used to describe her since her arrival in the Western Heartlands.
Image As she can be taciturn, she opts to reuse the same expressions when in conversation.
Image The placement and formal enunciation of words can be peculiar to someone unfamiliar with her educated manner of speech. Contractions are never uttered, and even possessives are kept to a minimum.
Image She purposely does not attract much attention to her arrivals or departures. The phrase, "I did not see you there," has been frequently directed her way, as she has a penchant for waiting until her presence is noticed before extending a greeting.
Image She despises bears - especially the smaller brown bears that prowl along the Trade Way. The presence of a bear, even if it is the companion of someone, causes her to tense.
Image She rarely drinks alcohol, although she will feign doing so during certain social situations.

Alexandra Keenan is a native of Waterdeep, the City of Splendors. She is the middle child of Mortimer and Eleanor (née Tesper-Vhaire) Keenan, who respectively work as a guardsman and a seamstress. Alexandra has an older sister, Alana, who is already married with children. A younger sister, Alison, occasionally comes and goes between Waterdeep and Candlekeep.

Although not born into nobility, Alexandra enjoyed a plain but comfortable lifestyle in the Castle Ward of Waterdeep. She demonstrated a talent for creativity at an early age, and the intelligent child was tutored at home until she could be sent to the famed bardic college in Suzail, Cormyr. There, she studied a wide variety of academic and artistic subjects. Her affinity for music and the arts resulted in her becoming an accomplished performer, although her introverted nature causes her to shun the spotlight and public demonstrations of her talent. Her love of reading and learning new things provided her with the ability to know a little bit of information about everything, although the depth of her knowledge remains unknown to most people.

When she graduated from her studies, she received a generous monetary gift from a wealthy relative who had attended the academy in the past. In accepting the gift, Alexandra agreed that she would visit the famed Sword Coast and experience the same places that her relative had once traveled.

Image
(Alphabetical by first name.)
(Strikethroughs = deceased.)
(Italics = NPCs.)
A

Aaron Lyonaler
Hidden: show
The former leader of The Order of the Silver Rose and favored of the Red Knight is an acquaintance and fellow instructor of the children who reside at Pathfinders' Hall. Their working relationship briefly teased at something beyond professionalism, but their flirtations never went beyond an impulsive kiss in the midst of a disagreement. The two were supposed to attend the Masquerade Dinner Cruise together as friends, but the knight canceled before the event. The two subsequently did not speak beyond their instructor duties, and they have had little contact since the children departed Pathfinder Hall.
Alexandra offered Aaron the opportunity to mold the martial forces of Candlekeep into a tactical dream, but the knight ultimately refused the offer in favor of pledging himself to the service of Baldur's Gate.
Adallan Ragnon
Hidden: show
Alexandra once considered the tea-loving Reader of Candlekeep the best thing that she ever obtained from the Song of the Morning, because it was at the temple that the two first met and spoke of life. Adallan, who is both a skilled combatant and a devoted scholar, has the peaceful aura of a true monk that the Guide inwardly envies.

However, his unexpected and unexplained decision to side with Isabella Villame and Reineke Ingenium during their attempted coup deeply hurt the young woman, and she finds that she cannot look at him with the same level of respect she once held.
Adelaide van de Saer
Hidden: show
For a self-proclaimed woman of love, Adelaide van de Saer rarely demonstrated anything but animosity towards Alexandra. Too many times did the paladin come to Candlekeep and demand answers as if somehow entitled to them, and the Guide did not particularly care for the blatant hypocrisy and malevolence the Sembite woman presented. To Alexandra, Adelaide used her position within The Halls of Inner Light not as a method by which to do good deeds, but an instrument through which others who did not think like her were ostracized.

The amateur investigator tried to dabble in Coastal politics, but her biased efforts resulted in little more than amused snickers from those with the sense to see through her lackluster attempts. News of her death came on the heels of her mistake-riddled reports that sought to portray Candlekeep in a negative light, and since Alexandra refused to speak ill of the dead, the Guide uttered nothing at all in the end.

Like many mistakenly thought dead, Adelaide has once again resumed her life - this time as a priestess of Sune instead of a paladin. The two women affected a cordial enough air towards each other when Alexandra was involved with Cosimo Delucca, given his and Adelaide's mutual work for Darius Holding Company, but the underlying issues between the women were never discussed. Even after Adelaide saved Alexandra from drowning during a tumultuous voyage to Selûne's Bracelet, the Guide felt the deed perfunctory instead of preferred.
Aeili Azenci
Hidden: show
The elven priestess of Mystra was someone who was closely associated with members of Pathfinder Hall, but Alexandra did not judge her until they had reason to interact. The elf came to Candlekeep at the behest of Eleanor, who had solicited aid for the scribe's deteriorating health due to The Scorched Tome of Oghma. The Mystran did not seem overly invested in the welfare of the scholar, and Aeili departed under a flimsy excuse that there were others who could better assist Alexandra. The fact that the elf's exit coincided with a ruckus in Doron Amar was not lost upon the woman of Candlekeep, although mutual illnesses and exchanged letters eventually tempered Alexandra's dislike of Aeili into a begrudging friendship that eventually blossomed into a genuine camaraderie. Knowing that her own end was imminent, Aeili offered to teach Alexandra all that she knew of the arcane so that the knowledge remained with someone.

During the last months of her life, Aeili and Alexandra spent many candle-marks together. Saying farewell to the elven priestess, despite being one of two people entrusted with the knowledge that she would continue life as a baelnorn, has been the hardest thing that Alexandra has ever had to do in her life.

Thankfully, the gift of a magical portrait has allowed Alexandra to maintain semi-regular contact with her dear friend, although a disagreement over the actions of Nezkreal Sezifear threatens to limit, if not altogether negate, that contact.
Aidan Thatcher
Hidden: show
The current owner and captain of The Twilight Rose, proprietor of Thatcher Shipwright and Company, and former co-leader of The Halls of Inner Light is someone with whom Alexandra has always had a distant, polite relationship. The two are cordial enough these days, but Aidan slighted the scribe when she first arrived in the region, and she has never quite forgotten the incident despite Aidan's subsequent apology for it.
Aleister DuBois
Hidden: show
The Seeker of Candlekeep conducts himself in a manner that reminds Alexandra of what Ulraunt, the Keeper of the Tomes must have been like at a younger age. He clearly knows his arcane theory, and the man is a master at manipulating the Weave to his whim. His terse, no-nonsense nature occasionally gives her pause, but the mage completes his assignments and does what she asks with minimal protest.
Alesea Abbot
Hidden: show
The priestess of Lathander and member of the Song of the Morning Temple was not someone who inspired any respect or admiration in the scribe. The aloof, haughty demeanor Alesea used towards most adventurers, Alexandra included, did not prompt any endearments. The unfriendly and downright cruel actions of the woman towards Michael Dunn, a man who loved her until she was swayed from him by Eldarian Al'maire, made Alexandra question if the supposed faithful of the Morninglord even understood her own religion. When word reached the scribe that Alesea had left the Western Heartlands, the woman of Candlekeep uttered two words: Good riddance.
Alexander Marshall
Hidden: show
At the behest of Isabella Villame, the then-fallen paladin of Torm and former basement-dweller of Pathfinders' Hall came to speak with the scribe during the height of the compulsory fits caused by The Scorched Tome of Oghma. For whatever reason, his uttered Celestial words reached the lost woman, and the two realized that they shared some sort of connection. Eventually, that connection turned into an actual romantic courtship, and Alexander briefly served as a Watcher of Candlekeep. The hopes and dreams that the scribe placed in the man were soon dashed when he wrote her a farewell letter mere days after her twentieth nameday. He departed the lands with Ameris and Telia Santraeger, and the woman of Candlekeep refrained from uttering his name.

He eventually returned in order to escort Alison Keenan to Candlekeep. The former lovers conversed, and Alexandra finally asked him about the infidelity accusations told to her by Eldarian Al'maire. Once the matter settled, Alexander promised Alexandra that he would always be there for her if needed, because only she held his heart. What feelings might have been reciprocated in time were claimed instead by Cosimo Delucca, and Alexander took the news well - at least in front of Alexandra. However, their contact diminished, and Alexandra has not seen Alexander again in some time.
Alison Keenan

The young, exuberant archer first came to The Sword Coast during the time that Alexandra was deathly ill from The Scorched Tome of Oghma. Alison stayed for month or so and briefly served as a Protector of Candlekeep, but she was ultimately called back home to tend to an ailing relative. However, the young woman never made it back to Waterdeep - or so she claimed. When she finally returned alongside Alexander Marshall almost a year later, the youngest Keenan spoke of a vague pursuit by vague assailants. Alexandra remains unconvinced by the convoluted story, and Alison has again returned to Waterdeep.
Amaranthe Ethne
Hidden: show
The reclusive druid and tag-along ladyfriend of Eldarian Al'maire initially made her presence known by demanding of the Guide all the things that the knight had given her through the ups and downs of their ill-fated story. Later, when Alexandra and Eldarian were romantically involved, the Guide was forced to contend with her lover spending more time with his former lady than his current one.

For a brief time, after Alexandra met Cosimo Delucca and at his behest, some of her anger at the past behaviors of Amaranthe - although not Eldarian - faded to where the Guide could tolerate the druid in social settings, but Alexandra knows that they will never be friends. Amaranthe and Eldarian disappeared together for several months, and she did not accompany him on his latest return to the region.
Amenthes Serb
Hidden: show
The former Thayan knight first came to Candlekeep at the behest of Kahanak Habdilof to serve as a liaison between the Thayan Enclave and the library fortress. The polite manners, kind tone, and respectful attitude shown by the man towards the Guide quickly endeared him to her, although she remained cognizant of his true purpose - to gain information for Thay. Still, as time passed, a genuine friendship sparked between the pair, and with that friendship came rumors of their romantic involvement. The rumors only increased when Amenthes launched a coup against his Khazark and Candlekeep was dragged into the sordid ordeal.

The Guide refused to confirm or deny the rumors for the longest time, but they revealed themselves to the public when they danced together at the wedding of Michael and Vala Dunn. Amenthes proposed courtship after Alexandra hinted at it, but the relationship dissolved a tenday later when the Guide endured yet another drama-filled incident involving Amenthes and people who wanted him dead.

The man surrendered himself to the Enclave for reasons unknown, and the new Khazark, Seteneptra Ma'u Vyacheslav, sent the Guide a grisly gift a short time later - the petrified, necrotic heart of Amenthes Serb.
Ameris Santraeger
Hidden: show
The priest of Ilmater was someone with whom the Guide had a turbulent relationship. The man was initially held in high regard, although his aloof behavior and perceived mistreatment of others close to her caused Alexandra to feel that Ameris caused nothing but pain and strife. Heated conversations in Candlekeep between fiery scribe and Tethyrian pride did little to negate the tensions, although Ameris asking Alexandra to tutor his adopted son - and her acceptance of the request - briefly established some measure of begrudging hope for the future. His repeated references to her being a liar when she stated her viewpoints ended their interactions for a time, and sews of his departure from the region prompted two words from the scribe: Good riddance. Time healed some wounds, though, and an unexpected visit from Ameris to request an education plan for his adopted children found the once-bitter rivals speaking as old friends. There remained some uneasiness between the pair when Alexandra became romantically involved with Eldarian Al'maire, but the abrupt end of that relationship meant that Ameris would once again turn a blind eye to the misbehavior of his so-called 'brother' and back him regardless.

The nail in the coffin of their on-again, mostly off-again relationship happened after the Harpers started a physical fight at The Friendly Arm Inn and Alexandra made clear her stance on the matter by dismissing Herran Hymn from Candlekeep for his involvement. Ameris actively worked against the Guide afterwards, spear-heading a movement to remove her from The Council of Light for remaining impartial.

The man departed a short time afterwards, supposedly never to return, and that was mighty fine with Alexandra. During one of his clandestine returns to Baldur's Gate, the priest surprised the Guide with a visit to the home she shared with Cosimo Delucca. Their frank discussion, prompted by a series of exchanged letters, finally resolved a host of misunderstandings. They parted in peace and with the knowledge that they will likely never see the other again.
Ashan Wayne
Hidden: show
The earth genasi is a gentle giant who is loyal to those who are loyal to him. The unexpected departure of Alexander Marshall, a person greatly admired by Ashan, made Alexandra wonder if the giant was still loyal to her. Although they remain cordial, Ashan's work with The Bladestone Foundation keeps him busy.
Atashka (Lilac)
Hidden: show
The red-haired tiefling and Acolyte of Candlekeep was someone who Alexandra initially thought would become one of her closest friends. However, the manipulations of Kahanak Habdilof, who was trying to woo both women at the same time and ultimately favored Alexandra, caused Lilac to react in an emotional, vitriolic manner. Allegations that she hired Praethis to cause harm to Alexandra briefly put Candlekeep on edge, although Lilac denied any wrongdoing and claimed that Praethis was trying to ruin her reputation. The two women spoke of the matter, but the intrigue eventually fizzled. An uneasy tension remained between the pair until Atashka decided to leave the region in early Ches, 1352 DR. Atashka returned to the Western Heartlands again, but she and Alexandra never interacted, and the tiefling's whereabouts are currently unknown.
Aurora Silverstaff
Hidden: show
The priestess of Istishia and former Seeker of Candlekeep wants, wants, wants - and gives little in return. Nothing within Candlekeep was ever good enough for Aurora; her projects were too boring, too uneventful. There were never enough expeditions, and no one would ever help her with her tasks - mainly because she behaved like an insufferable child at the slightest provocation.
Alexandra was not at all surprised when Aurora resigned shortly after Ulraunt rendered a decision in the attempt made by Isabella Villame to remove another Guide from the position. Aurora refused to divulge her reasons, but Alexandra later confirmed her theory that the pessimistic priestess supported the Gate Warden.
B

Bran / Corvin
Hidden: show
The Rashemi shaman claimed to be a good man, but his judgmental, violent actions are what defined him in the eyes of the Guide. He harbored a dislike of her until Alexandra confronted him, and then she learned that he resented her because she was too dedicated to neutrality - the key principles of Candlekeep. Bran advised the Guide that she should "be more like Isabella Villame" - much to the annoyance of Alexandra. Yet for all his claims of goodness, Bran attacked an unarmed man near Candlekeep and earned himself a permanent banishment for inciting violence. Until he finally left the region, Alexandra viewed him in the same way she viewed the other hypocritical, willfully ignorant people of the region: with a mixture of disdain and pity.

He returned, as do most people, and he returned with a vengeance: a frothing hatred for Candlekeep, Alexandra, and Michael Dunn. Bran adopted a new moniker, Corvin, and attempted to move various pieces into play so that he could enact his revenge. His efforts were unsurprisingly thwarted, and his death at the hands of the Radiant Heart did not last more than a few days.

Alexandra fully suspects that Bran, Corvin, or whatever he wants to call himself shall cackle from the shadows as he tries yet again to accomplish anything of any lasting worth.
C

Calad Damien Rokh
Hidden: show
The Sembite sailor, formerly Vincent Deveraux, entered Alexandra's life shortly after her relationship with Cosimo Delucca ended. Initially skeptical of the attentions of the man, especially so soon after her previous romance, Alexandra still invited Calad to accompany her to Waterdeep so that she could attend a family function, making him the first man she has taken home to meet her family.

Their romance is in its beginning stages, and Alexandra maintains a healthy sense of cautious optimism as the two learn about each other and adapt to a shared life together. She worries that he will grow resentful of the long shadow that she casts, but his subtle, earnest adoration of her puts her more at ease with every passing moment.
Cosimo Delucca
Hidden: show
The charismatic sorcerer lent his voice the loudest to the anti-Guide sentiment that spread throughout the region when Alexandra associated with Amenthes Serb. As a result, the Guide strongly disliked the native Balduran for his willful ignorance even thought the two never really interacted on a personal level. When Cosimo claimed that he wanted to get to know the woman behind the rumors, Alexandra initially balked at the invitation for tea and conversation. Something - and she remains uncertain as to what - made her change her mind, and she agreed to accompany the mage on an adventure that neither of them thought would amount of anything more than an argument. Instead, it ended in an embrace that changed both their lives, and the Guide felt a flutter in her heart that she still cannot explain.

Their pairing caused her friends, and his friends, to question the validity of their abrupt, head-over-heels romance. Most said that it would not last, and their intentions to prove everyone wrong ultimately fell short when a private family matter forced Cosimo to leave the region for the foreseeable future. Alexandra was left heartbroken, again, as it was a sense of duty - hers to Candlekeep, and his to his family - that forced them to end their romance as opposed to conflict between them. His influence upon her, however, remains in full effect, and she often finds herself thinking of him and hoping that he fares well in his new life even as she tries to find happiness again in hers.

Damien Pascal
Hidden: show
The leech-using healer was someone who frustrated Alexandra to no end. On one hand, he presented himself as a pitiful man who simply wanted a peaceful life. On the other hand, he was quick to bite at the hands - including hers - who sought to aid him towards that goal. He almost became the physician of Candlekeep, but his threat to kill Alexandra after the violent rampage caused by The Scorched Tome of Oghma - and his subsequent anger at her for it - effectively ended his career before it started. The man has not been sighted in the region for some time, and his presence is not at all missed.
Derik Ranloss
Hidden: show
The skilled warrior of Tempus and instructor at the Bladestone Foundation is not someone with whom Alexandra is overly-acquainted, but she does consider him a dependable ally who shares common ideals and goals. They are cordial and, at times, playful during their interactions, which are rare but pleasant when they do occur.
Desrah Asher
Hidden: show
The former owner and captain of The Twilight Rose, formerly The Dragonwing, embodies every aspect of the type of weak, desperate, 'damsel-in-distress' woman that Alexandra was encouraged never to be. The scribe had been content to ignore Desrah and her cloying antics until the woman bad-mouthed Alexandra behind her back for her participation in the Sunite Auction. Ever since that moment, the scribe held no fondness for the woman and took some measure of delight in snubbing Desrah whenever the opportunity availed itself. In return, Desrah imagined various slights and vowed never to assist Candlekeep as long as Alexandra holds power there - something that prompted the Guide to make the occasional dry comment regarding the chances for Candlekeep's continued longevity. In what Alexandra feels was the ultimate comeuppance, Desrah was forced to flee the region in Uktar 1352 D.R. after her unscrupulous past behavior caught up with her again.
Destin Owlspur
Hidden: show
The blonde Cormyrian and former Purple Dragon was the first man who sought to love the scribe, but she ultimately chose her studies and her pursuit of knowledge over his desire for intimate relations. The two had not interacted in over two years when chance brought them together in the Western Heartlands, but their reunion was unpleasant. Destin still resents his former flame for her youthful abandonment of his heart, and no amount of apologies or attempts at friendship were able to reach him until Alexandra became ill from her exposure to The Scorched Tome of Oghma. The warrior visited the scribe at her sickbed when she wrote him after learning of his heartbreak at the hands of Wren Di'Corvi. Tension remained between the once-amorous pair, although it dissipated when he left the region. A second sundering of his heart by the Zhentarim agent prompted another strained conversation where Destin expressed his numb joy for the happiness Alexandra experienced at the time, but then they lost touch again after she confessed that she had never forgotten him or their time together.

The Guide hears whispers of her former beau and his regional exploits, and while they occasionally speak from time to time, she has resigned herself to the fact that she will never again be a part of his life in any way that actually matters.
Diane Evon
Hidden: show
The Watcher of Candlekeep was first presented as the 'Bug Lady' due to her intense phobia of insects, and now that the fear is no longer within her, Diane has proven herself to be a valuable asset to Candlekeep. Alexandra vicariously lives through the detailed reports that Diane submits of the happenings outside the fortress walls, although the Guide is cautiously concerned by the draconic traits Diane occasionally manifests.
Dimitry Blazic
Hidden: show
The former Acolyte of Candlekeep and suspected double-agent for both the Thayan Enclave and the Zhentarim entered Candlekeep with a sense of entitled arrogance, and he resented Alexandra from the moment that she would not suffer any of his antics. He has publicly spoken ill of her, and of Candlekeep, sowing seeds of dissent wherever he goes and with whoever will listen. The Guide held no respect for the self-absorbed wizard long before he joined Isabella Villame in her attempted coup.

Dimitry was banished from Candlekeep in disgrace after he disrespected the Keeper of the Tomes during a meeting that saw the attempted coup fail to produce any results. Alexandra has heard whispers that the angry little man continues to find ways by which to try and discredit her, and she remains content in the knowledge that his vendetta is as useless as he was to Candlekeep.
E

Eldarian Al'maire
Hidden: show
The High Dawnlord of Lathander and former Knight-Commander of the Song of the Morning Temple is someone whom Alexandra always desired for a romantic relationship, but the charismatic paladin typically kept her at arm's length despite her best efforts. His unexpected death, subsequent revival, and the chaotic times between those events left the scribe with bitter feelings towards the knight. She finally achieved some semblance of closure when the man visited her in Candlekeep, and she candidly told him all the ways he had hurt her. His revelation that he would soon depart from the region did not sway him back into her good graces, and Alexandra effectively closed the book on the futile mess that was 'their story.' However, shortly after her courtship with Olrich Gaelin ended, Eldarian managed to start a new chapter - much to Alexandra's annoyance at the time. The two settled into a comfortable, albeit strained, friendship that was intact when the man made good on his promise to leave The Sword Coast. Later, his unexpected return alongside a tag-along lady-friend, his reminder of a vow never to step foot into Candlekeep again, and his insistence that the Guide return everything that he had ever gifted her came extremely close to destroying what embers remained in Alexandra's heart.

Yet the tiniest spark still remained, and the embattled pair soon found themselves recovering together at his temple after an unexpected and brutal orc attack nearly killed them both. It was in the small, cozy infirmary that two vulnerable souls finally stopped dancing around each other and decided to be together. The path towards happily-ever-after was not an easy one, because both paladin and scribe were strong-willed and stubborn, and the reality of the relationship never quite lived up to the fantasy of it. In the end, well after she learned that the man cannot marry because he has been betrothed for years to a Waterdhavian High Priestess of Sune, Alexandra was abandoned by the so-called knight after she asked for his aid with death threats made against her. They have not spoken again except for when the paladin joined Ameris Santraeger and Luke Darius in their quest to remove Alexandra from The Council of Light.

Now a nobleman of Baldur's Gate, Eldarian comes and goes from the region every few months, usually with some sort of ready-made tag-along lady within easy reach. He and Alexandra do not speak, and the Guide remains quite content with the arrangement.
Eleanor
Hidden: show
The former leader of the Hunters of Vengeance is a woman for whom Alexandra briefly worked as an assistant during the planning of a Winter Festival designed to raise spirits and funds - two things that were desperately needed after the conclusion of the war against the undead. Alexandra attended Eleanor's tribunal to show support, but Eleanor's subsequent and mandatory remediation kept the disgraced former paladin inside the walls of the House of the Guardian.

When Eleanor became a Lieutenant of The Ebon Blade Mercenary Company, their paths coincided again. The taciturn former paladin proved to be a capable and maternal caretaker during Alexandra's possession by The Scorched Tome of Oghma. Eleanor has been absent from the region for some time.
Elvina Aira-S'effaro
Hidden: show
The Rashemi witch leader of The Order of the Silver Rose is someone who Alexandra considers an ally, although the Guide remains cautious of what she shares with the other woman. The relationship between their respective orders remains a tentative one, as Alexandra does not grant the perks and privileges afforded to the OSR by a previous Guide who had closer ties. Still, the women themselves have a cordial enough relationship on the few occasions that they interact.
Elyssa Symbaern
Hidden: show
The devoted bladesinger of Corellon, Councilor of Doron Amar, and former Protector of Candlekeep is someone with whom Alexandra has had a tepid relationship in the past, although the pair grew somewhat closer after Alexandra took steps to be more demonstrative of her fondness for the elf. The two made themselves ready together for the Fundraiser Gala as well as the Sunite Auction. For the most part, the two were cordial to each other, although Alexandra frequently grew annoyed with what she felt is the elf's constant meddlesome presence in every aspect of life in The Sword Coast. When Alexandra requested that the non-affiliated elf depart a private Candlekeep meeting and adhere to the 'no white' rule of the fortress, their relationship soured to the point where they have not spoken more than a few words since that time, and the few words uttered are generally the Guide quasi-politely telling the nosy elf to mind her own business.
Emrys Kerr
Hidden: show
The long-time member, now a Reader, of Candlekeep who has at times spent years elsewhere, has proven himself to be an amiable, dependable friend and ally. Alexandra is aware of the source of his powers - powers that the man wisely keeps to himself unless the situation becomes dire - but does not overly begrudge him for them.
Endelyon Castillo
Hidden: show
The petite whirlwind of a woman who helped create the Sword Coast Commercial Exchange and Bluesummer Academy was someone Alexandra viewed as a kindred spirit, as Endelyon was simultaneously intimidating and brilliant. The two women shared a mutual goal with their desire for educational reform and societal improvement, and a collaboration that married Alexandra's detailed plans with Endelyon's wealth and connections was on the horizon. Endelyon's ascent into nobility effectively ended all those plans, but Alexandra remains fond of the raven-haired beauty.
Evander Mordragon
Hidden: show
The quasi-nobleman from Westgate was an acquaintance, and the circumstances that prompted their friendship afforded them an easy, affable camaraderie and the opportunity to indulge in the games of nobles. He departed from the region intending to return some day, but Alexandra has not seen him in quite some time.
Everett Blackwolf
Hidden: show
Alexandra has always had a soft spot for the former Protector of Candlekeep and former Lieutenant within The Ebon Blade Mercenary Company. His shy, boyish demeanor around her has always stood in stark contrast to the highly skilled, capable warrior disposition the man employs with everyone else. When and if she needs him, she knows that she has a stalwart ally in Everett, although his presence has been absent from the region for several months.
F

Fenix Wandersoul
Hidden: show
The long-time employee of the Sword Coast Commercial Exchange, private investigator, and deadly crossbowman has a knack for always being in the right place at the right time and providing useful results. When she was still brand-new to the region, Alexandra hired Fenix for a small task - expending most of her meager funds in the process - and their relationship has been business-like and functional ever since. Now that she serves as the Guide of Candlekeep, Alexandra still calls upon Fenix for aid and assistance, and he occasionally seeks her out when he thinks that there is a work opportunity.
G

Grandmaster Errol
Hidden: show
The sentient, millennia-old blade serves as the leader of The Order of the Rising Sun, a group of demon-hunters who assisted in the conflict saga against Scarlett Riddle. Alexandra was the first person outside the order ever to wield the blade, and she did so in the battle against the powerful Shadow Lord and his demonic army.

Grandmaster Errol and his daughter, the sentient book formerly known as Diary, departed the region with others of the Order once Scarlett Riddle was defeated.
Greil Nightgale
Hidden: show
The leader of The Ebon Blade Mercenary Company is one of the first people Alexandra met when she arrived in the region, and the two have always shared a friendly relationship. Rumors of the dark faith the man holds dear has given her some measure of pause, but she is careful not to judge him without hard facts. He is quick to come to her aid if she needs him, but Alexandra is cognizant of the fact that the man always has his own agenda in whatever he does for others.
Gunthar
Hidden: show
The unusual devout of Hoar and former member of The Hunters of Vengeance started out as a relatively new but intuitive companion who seemed to want to learn more about the devotion the Guide has for Oghma. He then turned into one of the voices who publicly decried Alexandra and called for her removal from Candlekeep. She remains polite but distant towards the man, and she plans to return a gifted golden coin of Hoar to him when the opportunity presents itself.
H

Heinrich Harrod
Hidden: show
Shortly after she arrived in the region, Alexandra worked to assist House Harrod and House Rothschild with in investigation into the disappearance of two of their newlywed members. At the conclusion of the saga, the dignified patriarch of the noble House Harrod granted Alexandra a boon. The favor remains unclaimed.
Herran Hymn
Hidden: show
The former Seeker of Candlekeep and Director of The Performers Guild at The White Mask Theater is someone with whom Alexandra has always had a contemptuous relationship. When he still served Candlekeep, the breezy, flirtatious man stood in stark contrast to the serious, business-like scribe, and his effervescent attitude frequently caused Alexandra to grit her teeth even as she smiled. Still, for all his 'faults,' Herran was considered an ally - albeit one that was preferred in small doses - until he refused to share information when requested. This violation of key Candlekeep ideals, along with his apparent dislike of Alexandra and her formality, created a rift between the two that culminated in his removal from the ranks of the library fortress after he participated in a physical battle between known Harpers and members of the Thayan Enclave.

Despite claiming at the time that he understood her decision, the man has crowed to anyone and everyone at how he was mistreated by Alexandra. The Guide, unaffected by the claims, simply offers her well-kept records of meetings and conversations to those who are actually interested in knowing the truth.
Hinzel Mann
Hidden: show
The taciturn tiefling once frequented Candlekeep, as he is close to Isabella Villame, but now he and Alexandra rarely see each other. It is rumored that he has been absent from the region for several months.
I

Isabella Villame
Hidden: show
The former stalwart, constant presence within Candlekeep was someone whom Alexandra once greatly admired and respected despite the occasional tension in their interactions. For a time, the library fortress thrived under their joint leadership - or so the Guide thought.

In mid-Flamerule, 1353 D.R., after disagreeing with Alexandra when the Guide became romantically involved with Cosimo Delucca, the Gate Warden of Candlekeep set into motion a campaign to oust Alexandra from her position. The attempted coup turned into a public spectacle that divided Candlekeep and ultimately led to a meeting over which the Keeper of the Tomes himself presided. Isabella, and those who supported her, were held accountable for their unprofessional actions, and the Gate Warden received latrine duty for one month for her role in the schism.

The matter was supposed to be settled, but Isabella refused to change tack and even tried to increase the amount of vitriol that she spread regarding Alexandra. Ultimately, the Gate Warden was sent by Ulraunt on a long-term research expedition that will keep her far from Candlekeep for the foreseeable future. The woman maintains her title and rank, for now, but has no further influence upon the organizational activities of the library fortress - and that is mighty fine with the Guide.
Israe'anna
Hidden: show
The unusual drow claims to be unlike her kin, but who can trust a drow? Alexandra refuses to admit the creature to Candlekeep despite the pleas sent through third parties, but Israe'anna seems to have some sort of loyalty to the library fortress and its members all the same. Of course, the loyalty of Israe'anna to Candlekeep is similar to the loyalty of water to a sieve, and the Guide simply waits for the moment when the true ebon colors of the drow leak through her carefully crafted guise.
J

Jane Price
Hidden: show
Few people evoke an eyeroll of annoyance from Alexandra quite like the former employee of the Sword Coast Commercial Exchange. The problem Alexandra has with Jane is that Jane generally wants - information, assistance, and so forth - without giving anything in return. The abrasive, demanding, threatening personality and tone Jane uses does not impress the Guide, who is not afraid to tell the other woman exactly what she thinks. Still, despite their clashes, the two strong-willed women manage to collaborate towards mutual goals every now and again, such as when Jane brought Alexandra information regarding the true nature of Morgalia Verenach as a Zhentarim agent and the fact that Isabella Villame knew about it.

The Guide has not encountered Jane for a time, and Alexandra wonders if someone has finally slipped a knife between the ribs of the woman with ever-changing loyalties.
Jogarjoran
Hidden: show
One of the many secrets of Candlekeep is the kobold Jogarjoran, affectionately called "Jojo" for short, who keeps a permanent residence at the top of Spellflicker Tower. He occasionally ventures forth to conduct his own affairs, but mostly the mischievous creature keeps to himself. Those of Candlekeep know his true identity, but they are bound by their vows to keep safe the knowledge.
Jonas Rokranon
Hidden: show
The legendary knight of Torm and hero of the Sword Coast is simply "Uncle Jonas" to Alexandra, even though he is actually her cousin-by-law due to his marriage to Selis Vhaire Rokranon. The Guide of Candlekeep rarely speaks of her familial ties to House Rokranon due in part to her desire to let her accomplishments speak for themselves. However, the more pressing reason for her discretion is that those connected to House Rokranon still remain potential targets to the many enemies Jonas accumulated during his time spent on the Sword Coast.
K

Kahanak Habdilof
Hidden: show
The enigmatic former Khazark of the Thayan Enclave claimed that he wanted to woo Alexandra shortly after she arrived in the region, but she was skeptical of his sudden and intense desire for her. Her doubts proved true when she learned that the man had a reputation as a womanizer, and then she discovered that he was whispering similar claims to Lilac (Atashka.) Alexandra held no ill will towards the transmuter until he purchased an evening with her at the Sunite Auction and promptly sought to 'persuade' her into letting him set the terms. His gleeful Sending that informed her of the death of Eldarian Al'maire further soured her disposition towards the Thayan, and she shed no tears when news of his death reached her ears. He was revived, of course, but the date never happened despite his continued requests for her to visit the Enclave.

The Guide eventually 'bought' her freedom by paying the man what he spent at the auction, and the matter was settled - or so she thought. Kahanak continued his interference with her life in more subtle ways, such as forcing Amenthes Serb to serve as a liaison between the Enclave and Candlekeep in the hopes that the knight would seduce the young woman and steal information. Ultimately, the former leader of the Thayan Enclave of Baldur's Gate was banned from Candlekeep and lost his power and position a short time later. Despite rumors that he left the area, he was sighted several times later before disappearing without a trace.
Kerlys Kethali
Hidden: show
The elven arcanist and former Protector of Candlekeep was regarded as rude by most others, but her naturally neutral disposition allowed Alexandra to interact with him in an almost normal manner. She credits him for saving her life at the Undead Siege of Candlekeep in 1352, as it was his spell that allowed her to see through the deadly illusions that killed several others defenders. The pair briefly traveled together to explore places of interest on behalf of Candlekeep, but then the elf disappeared. Several months later he returned, and his questionable actions prompted his dismissal from Candlekeep. He departed again, briefly returned, and then left the region for parts unknown.
Kivas Ulbright
Hidden: show
The Loremaster of Oghma served as an ever-present source of comfort, knowledge, and wisdom during the long months that Alexandra endured the deleterious effects of The Scorched Tome of Oghma. She learned enough about the clerical side of the faith that when the saga ended, and Oghma Himself entrusted her with guarding the now-cleansed tome, it was Kivas who sanctioned her as a novice priestess.

To this day, the Guide attends regular and frequent prayer sessions with Kivas at the temple, and he remains a trusted confidante and advisor.
Klait Goldwind
Hidden: show
The paladin of Torm and member of The Everwatch Knights is someone Alexandra has known for a time, but various circumstances and their respective duties have generally kept them at opposite ends of the Sword Coast. Klait's appointment to the Baldurian chapter of the Everwatch Knights was supposed to afford them a new opportunity to strengthen their friendship, but their paths have remained apart, and she has not seen him in quite a long time.

Lafali'Atria-Hoihe Dacino
Hidden: show
The once-human, once-male, now elven female Reader-Captain of Candlekeep is someone with whom Alexandra has had an interesting relationship. When Alexandra was first named as the Guide of Candlekeep, Lafali'Atria was one of the first who sought to test the new leader, and the two shared several intense discussions and debates. Eventually, though, as Alexandra maintained her various stances, the elf relented and applied herself to her studies and contributions to the famed bastion of knowledge. Nowadays, the Guide teases the elf on her lengthy meeting topics, and the two have a cordial camaraderie.

When the Sea Seeker, the Candlekeep research vessel, returned from a two-year expedition, Alexandra gave her captaincy to the nautically savvy elf and has not been disappointed. Lafali'Atria has handled outfitting the ship and continues her hard work towards the mission of Candlekeep, much to the delight of the Guide.
Laitae Lafreth
Hidden: show
The former Guide and current Great Reader of Candlekeep is someone of whom Alexandra was initially uncertain, as the elf did not appear to have an active presence within the fortress library. However, the fervor with which Laitae approached her reclaimed position caused any doubts to fade, and the pair formed a tentative friendship that transcended their professional collaborations. Having Laitae refer to her as a "sister" was one of the highest compliments the young scribe could have ever hoped to receive from the brilliant elf. Laitae wanted Alexandra to give Ameris Santraeger a chance at redemption, and the young woman begrudgingly agreed out of her love and respect for the elf.

Both attended the farewell celebration of their mutual friend and sister, Aeili Azenci, and Laitae traveled onwards with Aeili to Evermeet. Upon her return, Laitae and Alexandra spoke of the loss of Aeili as well as the highly privileged knowledge that the Mystran was transformed into a baelnorn.

Alexandra credits Laitae's guidance, support, and foresight as the main reasons why Alexandra occupies the former position as her beloved mentor. The Great Reader's presence in Candlekeep has lessened due to her research and council activities, and the Guide sorely misses her when she is on the Plane of Air or elsewhere.
Liam the Golden
Hidden: show
The golden-haired, golden-eyed tiefling was one of the first people Alexandra met when she arrived in the region, and for a short time he took on the role of a guardian and mentor. His subsequent and abrupt disappearance from her life likely altered the course of hers, as the young woman sought other company and found her way to Candlekeep. They reconnected upon his return several months later, but by then Alexandra was firmly ensconced within the library fortress and already suffering from the deleterious effects of The Scorched Tome of Oghma.

Alexandra last saw Liam around the time of her twentieth nameday. He disappeared from the region a short time later, and the Guide has not heard any word of him again.
Luke Darius
Hidden: show
The relationship between Alexandra and Luskan leader of Darius Holding Company has been a rocky one, and only recently has the Guide of Candlekeep warmed to the man. The pair indirectly butted heads over posters that Alexandra viewed as an attempt to take hide business from Candlekeep - a thing done to spite the Guide, or so she was told by a source within the company, after Eldarian Al'maire ended their relationship.

The iciness between Alexandra and Luke did not start to thaw until she met Cosimo Delucca, who worked for Darius Holding Company. He helped bridge the gap between the pair and arranged for Candlekeep to partner with the Company for mercantile endeavors. Alexandra worried that his departure from the region would truncate the business relationship, but Luke pleasantly surprised her with a request to meet and review their business standings. The two also discussed previous misunderstandings, issued mutual apologies, and expressed a shared desire to progress as friends and allies - an unexpected but most welcome outcome.
Lysander Asperan
Hidden: show
The red-haired warrior, prominent member of The Everwatch Knights, and fellow Waterdhavian is an exceptionally skilled warrior encased in a stoic demeanor and battle-hardened armor. There was a softer side to the knight back when he was still in feminine form, though, and Alexandra was privileged with glimpses of it. The two worked together on a project that involved an ancient tablet found in the ruins of a Helmite temple, and together they and others accomplished the destruction of an item that would allow the mass teleportation of undead armies. The two remain collaborators and friends, and they have given mutual promises that they will be there for the other throughout trials and tribulations.

The ghostly remnant of the Shoon Imperium was first discovered during a trek to an ancient tower, where it had been loitering for over a millennia. The creature took delight in stumping Alexandra and her companions with complex mathematical riddles, but the stubborn scholar finally solved the one that blocked their path. Some measure of begrudging respect was afforded to Alexandra by the spirit, although its sarcastic nature and haughty arrogance prompted naught but contempt from the scribe. The creature escaped the tower before the group could banish it, and later it sought admittance to Candlekeep. The mathematical genius of a lost empire has not been seen in quite some time.
Marneiros Duskwalker
Hidden: show
The half-elven archer and member of Doron Amar is someone Alexandra considers a long-time friend and ally. At her continued urging, Marneiros finally wrote a book - Duskwalker on Orcs - for Alexandra to place within the archives of Candlekeep.
Martin Ravel
Hidden: show
The scholar from Amn was a new Acolyte at Candlekeep alongside Alexandra. The pair occasionally traveled together, and when they did, she usually had to rescue him from certain death. He was accepted as a tutor at Pathfinders' Hall, and so Alexandra thought that they would work together in the coming days. However, Martin had to return to Amn at the unexpected death of his father, and while the scholar has returned from his trip, Alexandra has barely seen him. His keen interest in Soubar, its mysterious well, and the nearby Zhentarim kept the man occupied, and Alexandra has not seen Martin in a very long time.
Maurmeril Jvianin
Hidden: show
Alexandra sees slivers of herself within the Halruuan noblewoman and Seeker of Candlekeep. It is almost eerie, the Guide feels, the way that Maurmeril's dutiful actions, attentiveness to protocol, and adherence to manners reflects Alexandra's own behavior when she first started her career. In Maurmeril, Alexandra sees the future of Candlekeep, and the realization is both a blessing and bittersweet: a blessing, in that if something should ever happen to Alexandra, Candlekeep would continue to have a capable leader; bittersweet because the Guide knows that the day will eventually come when she has to give the responsibilities of an office she loves to someone else.
Medune Norman
Hidden: show
The affable, albeit absentminded, halfling from The Phoenix Company is someone whose company Alexandra values. His optimism and empathy for others is a bright and steady light in a place prone to darkness. Unfortunately, Alexandra's many projects and duties keep her from socializing with Medune as often as they did in the past, although they managed to dance together at the wedding of Kalidorian and Soraya in Doron Amar. Ever one to use formality, Alexandra has given Medune the title of "Friend" - a title that the halfling seems to cherish. His visit to her sickbed in Candlekeep was a special treat, as was the hardcover notebook that he gifted her. Whenever the Guide needs a dose of optimism, she turns to the halfling.

The halfling now suffers from amnesia, and no amount of magical or divine experiments has restored his once bubbly personality. As far as Alexandra knows, Medune remains medically confined at the Phoenix Company Lodge.
Michael Dunn & Rain Dog
Hidden: show
The merchant, woodsman, devout of Lathander, former cook at Pathfinders' Hall, and current Sergeant of The Ebon Blade Mercenary Company has been an ally and occasional travel companion, and the two developed an easy, sibling-like camaraderie. His loyal companion, a canine named Rain, has nuzzled her wet nose past (most of) the usual aversions to touch that the young woman possesses. Michael's personal disagreements with Eldarian Al'maire, which led to the banishment of the ranger from Pathfinders' Hall, prompted Alexandra to step outside her comfort zone in an attempt to keep Michael from walking down a darker path. The mistreatment that the ranger continually endured at the hands of people who should be beacons of hope and goodwill have soured the scribe towards them while her protectiveness towards Michael has only strengthened. After his whirlwind courtship with Alison Keenan ended, the ranger and Rain Dog kept a low profile in order to grieve her absence. The pair later joined Candlekeep and worked as members of the martial forces, although Michael tendered his resignation because he refused to work a moment longer under Isabella Villame after she attempted a coup against Alexandra.

The bond between the ranger and the scribe remained strong for a time, although his marriage to Vala (née Reyer) reduced Michael to someone with whom she occasionally conversed rather than the staunch ally he used to be.

Their relationship deteriorated after Michael embarked upon a romantic affair with another woman while married - an act that offends the very faith of Alexandra, who is a devout of the Binder of What Is Known, not only because of the way it has harmed others, but because it sullied the covenants that he spoke to his wife on their wedding day. The reckless, chaotic actions of the man forced the Guide of Candlekeep to sever her ties with him lest he pull her down with him as he falls further into oblivion. His absence from her life has caused a deep void within her heart, but she cannot reconcile his actions when judged against her faith.
Michael Rothschild
Hidden: show
Shortly after she arrived in the region, Alexandra worked to assist House Harrod and House Rothschild with in investigation into the disappearance of two of their newlywed members. At the conclusion of the saga, the middle-aged patriarch of the noble House Rothschild granted Alexandra a boon. The favor remains unclaimed.
Mi-Le
Hidden: show
The always smiling monk of The Old Order monk and Alexandra first met at the undead fields near Baldur's Gate she was still an Acolyte of Candlekeep, and their intellectual conversation eventually progressed to knowledge. She worked to copy his public journal, Reflections on the Way, for placement into the archives of Candlekeep as a result.

The monk has been sought for advice from time to time, but Alexandra feels herself too different to adhere to many of the teachings Mi-Le offers. His ways, in her opinion, are not meant for those who have been thrust into positions of power.
Moreneth
Hidden: show
The copper dragon with a penchant for remaining disguised as a chicken spent quite some time in Candlekeep during the climax of the Scarlett Riddle saga. The Guide and the creature used to spend several candle-marks speaking about life and romance, and Alexandra held a soft spot for him despite the wariness displayed by others within the library fortress.

Moreneth, Sapphire, and a young girl saved at the final battle against Scarlett Riddle retired to the lair of the dragon to leave out their lives in peace and harmony.
Morgalia Verenach
Hidden: show
The former Seeker of Candlekeep infiltrated the library fortress on behalf of the Zhentarim, unbeknownst to Alexandra, and supplied them with sensitive information for the better part of a year. Her status as a double agent was revealed to Isabella Villame long before Alexandra ever discovered the truth, a fact that lends credence to the cozy relationship shared between the Gate Warden and the Zhentarim.

Morgalia was also a very vocal supporter of Isabella during her attempted coup against the Guide, but like the majority of backers, Morgalia did not last long after the Keeper of the Tomes chastised those involved. She claims that she resigned on her own terms, but Morgalia was dismissed and then banned from Candlekeep after reaching her final disciplinary infraction and issuing threats against Alexandra. The disgraced scholar loitered for a short time in the region, but she has not been sighted with any regularity for months.
N

Nezkreal Sezifear
Hidden: show
The former Seeker of Candlekeep and current Keeper at the Church of Mystra is someone who started her career as a scholar around the same time that Alexandra joined Candlekeep. The former palemaster left the library fortress after a disagreement with then-Guide Laitae Lafreth only to return after Alexandra was named as the Guide.

For a time, the two scholars worked well together, and Alexandra even provided a recommendation letter so that Nezkreal could join the Church of Mystra after receiving the call to serve as a holy knight. Alexandra also approved the journey that Nezkreal took to Waterdeep to train as a Mystic Fire Knight on the condition that the woman continue her duties and bring back knowledge for Candlekeep. However, as Nezkreal spent more and more time with her temple duties, she spent less and less time on her scholar duties - a change of terms that displeased Alexandra. Finally, after observing the prideful, position-hungry behavior Nezkreal exhibited as well as her complete irreverence for Candlekeep, the Guide confronted the Seeker.

Nezkreal ultimately resigned after stating that she could not balance the tenets of her Mystran faith with the vows of Candlekeep. The fact that both First Reader Tethtoril and Great Reader Laitae Lafreth, also devout Mystrans, managed to do so was not lost upon Alexandra, who believes that Nezkreal simply wants the fame and glory that comes with leading an organization.
Nixidea
Hidden: show
The meddlesome woman of dubious origins first tried to lie and scheme her way into the life of the Guide, but when those efforts fell short, Nixidea lured Alexandra to an inn room and refused to let her depart. Later, the self-serving tiefling purposely lied and conspired against Candlekeep in order to prevent a research expedition from leaving Baldur's Gate. The resulting change in plans cost several sailors their lives and earned Nixidea a permanent ban from Candlekeep.
O

Oghma
Hidden: show
At the conclusion of a time-traveling saga that took her and others into the past, Alexandra was rewarded for the trials and tribulations she endured from The Scorched Tome of Oghma by being entrusted as its guardian by none other than Oghma Himself. The deity manifested Himself before her and enthralled onlookers, and Alexandra fell to her knees in fervent devotion and praise for the honor bestowed upon her. Shortly afterwards, she committed herself as a priestess of her faith to the Binder of What Is Known.
Olrich Gaelin
Hidden: show
The Mystic Fire Knight and spellsword of Mystra is someone who Alexandra thought she would marry after their chance meeting in Soubar and subsequent whirlwind romance. The pair lasted almost three months when, after an argument during the midst of her recovery from the adverse effects of The Scorched Tome of Oghma, the duty-bound knight dropped the sword she had gifted him at her feet and ended their courtship. He sent a letter of apology a few days later, but the damage was already done. He disappeared for a year and a half, during which Alexandra hardly spoke of her first lover, only to return while she was engaged to Cosimo Delucca.

The Guide and Olrich made peace with their past, and she convinced him to join Candlekeep as part of the martial forces in the hopes that he would find a new purpose in life after so much time spent wandering the lands.
Onna'Evatril MoonWhisper
Hidden: show
The bespectacled, bouffant-coiffed elven druidess of Angharradh made for an exuberant and enjoyable companion when taken in small, infrequent doses. The pair danced together at the Midwinter Celebration, much to the delight of everyone except Alexandra. They later visited Doron Amar, where Alexandra's ignorance of elven history and Onna'Evatril's response resulted in a sour end to an otherwise sweet day. Additional tensions further deteriorated the tentative friendship, and the two did not speak for quite some time. The elf's revelation of a personal secret provided some measure of clarity, although many questions yet remained. Regrettably, Onna'Evatril permanently left the region during Kythorn, 1352.
P

Praethis
Hidden: show
The blue-skinned tiefling came to Alexandra and warned her of a supposed plot set in motion by Lilac (Atashka,) whose subsequent rebuttal threw doubts on the pair of them. Alexandra knew that Praethis wanted to speak with her, but the intrigue eventually fizzled into nothingness. Praethis was found dead a tenday or so later, and whatever he might have said died with him.
R

Rania Arowaven
Hidden: show
The priestess of Selûne and member of The Halls of Inner Light was once, very briefly, an Acolyte of Candlekeep. Unfortunately, either in an attempt to impress others or due to willful ignorance, Rania purposely twisted information and presented blatant lies about Candlekeep and its members during an ill-fated Council of Light meeting. Had the woman not shouted her immediate, angry resignation at the Guide, Alexandra would have removed her by the end of the day for gross misconduct.

Aided by a small but vocal minority of other newcomers to the region, Rania continued to spew vitriol against Candlekeep and its Guide despite having hard evidence presented to her that negated her claims. Alexandra worried for Amenthes Serb, whose redemption efforts were supervised by the novice oracle, as the Guide could not understand how someone so obtuse as Rania could help a man trying to find his way into the light.

At the behest of Jane Price, the two women met for a formal mediation session that ended with a spoken agreement to work together and an unspoken agreement to ignore the existence of the other. When Alexandra was the lady in the life of Cosimo Delucca, who once courted and then remained friends with Rania, the Guide doubted that the unspoken agreement remained an option.

Things changed between the two women after Alexandra nearly drowned during a voyage to Selûne's Bracelet sponsored by Darius Holding Company. As Alexandra contemplated the meaning for her continued existence, Rania approached and offered sincere apology for her past transgressions. The pair made amends, and while they are not as close as perhaps either would like due to the time demanded by their respective duties, Alexandra counts Rania as a friend and ally.
Reine Arlynson
Hidden: show
The crass, rough, and oftentimes undecipherable paladin of Ilmater was someone who saw potential in Alexandra long before she saw it within herself. The no-nonsense, gruff manner the woman used when speaking to others stood in stark contrast to the prim, formal method used by the scribe, but Alexandra found an easy camaraderie with Reine during their interactions. The paladin continues her good work elsewhere in the realm and has not been sighted in the region for some time.
Reineke Ingenium Villame
Hidden: show
When the auburn-haired arcanist first arrived in Candlekeep, he was filled with the same hubris as many others who thought to use the bastion of knowledge for their own purposes instead of giving of themselves to it. His immense work ethic - and his penchant for detailed, timely reports - soon impressed the Guide, who entrusted him with projects far beyond someone of his time-in-rank. Reineke excelled at everything Alexandra lobbed at him, and the man eventually 'saw the light' with regards to what it truly meant to serve Candlekeep. He renounced his pursuit of necromancy and fully committed himself to his life at the library fortress, and he swiftly rose through the ranks as a result. His dedication to his tasks prompted Alexandra to create a special position, Archivist, which effectively serves as the right-hand of the Guide and possesses the authority to speak in situations when the Guide is absent.

His low-profile romance with Isabella Villame occasionally gave Alexandra pause, because she maintained a fear that her position will be usurped - and her intuition proved accurate when Reineke actively worked alongside his second choice (for he had first tried to woo Alexandra herself) during Isabella's attempted coup against the Guide. Reineke even threatened to resign from Candlekeep if Alexandra was not removed from her position, a decision that ultimately cost him his career as a scholar at the famed bastion of knowledge when the Keeper of the Tomes presided over a meeting that saw the troublemakers chastised for their methods.

Now married to Isabella, Reineke has established the Sword Coast Guild of the Arcane and likes to taut his success to Alexandra even while asking her if he can use the research facilities at Candlekeep under the pretense of 'repairing their friendship' - something that the Guide doubts will ever happen since she cannot trust a man who once served at her side and then betrayed her.
Ronja Leonhart
Hidden: show
The Darius Holding Company associate and member of The Bladestone Foundation is not someone that Alexandra knows very well, but the Guide still admires the manners and hospitality of the other woman. The two somewhat bonded due to their respective association with Xelarian Cannister after his abrupt departure shocked them both, but nothing beyond a cordial acquaintanceship resulted.

For a time, Alexandra felt that the continued association Ronja kept with people who openly hated and belittled the Guide likely meant that Ronja felt the same way, although this viewpoint change after Alexandra became romantically involved with Cosimo Delucca. Alexandra eventually hired Ronja and her event-planning organization, The Foxes, to plan the Candlekeep Beach Jubilee, and the celebration was a resounding success.
S

Saerthal Nhaalvahir
Hidden: show
The former Protector of Candlekeep and citizen of Doron Amar is someone who has expressed open disdain for Alexandra. Their disagreement over the presence of Elyssa Symbaern at a private organizational meeting ended with Saerthal likening the scribe to a Thayan, which Alexandra took as a grievous insult. Since that day, the sun elf has complained to anyone who will listen at how 'two-faced' is the Guide of Candlekeep. For her part, the scribe seems content to let Saerthal squawk like the chicken she thinks him to be.
Sapphire
Hidden: show
The celestial with a troubled past turned to Candlekeep when she needed aid against her nemesis, Scarlett Riddle, although her initial motives were clouded in vague clues and tight-lipped responses. Members of Candlekeep slowly but surely made their way through the many layers of the saga, and eventually Sapphire was freed of the taint and turmoil that surrounded her.

Moreneth, Sapphire, and a young girl saved at the final battle against Scarlett Riddle retired to the lair of the dragon to leave out their lives in peace and harmony.
Scarlett Riddle
Hidden: show
The undead antagonist of a lengthy saga involving dragons, celestials, chronomancers, and a host of other strange phenomena, Scarlett Riddle faded into nothingness after members of Candlekeep and their allies defeated her demon champion on an island of Selûne's Bracelet.
Selengil Harkonis
Hidden: show
Alexandra once found the elven Dreadlord of The Zhentarim more pleasant company than some of the so-called 'good' people of the region, but she remained acutely aware that he is adept at manipulating his persona to fit any occasion and mood. Now that his organization is allowed within Baldur's Gate due to a trade deal he negotiated, Alexandra wonders what will happen next.

His banishment from Candlekeep was something that he wished to remedy, and the Guide made good on her promise to seek counsel on the issue, going as far as to speak in person with First Reader Tethtoril. Despite her efforts to demonstrate true neutrality, Selengil failed to abide by the terms requested in order for the ban to be lifted - providing a written apology and acknowledging the crimes for which he was banished.

Selengil turned even more hostile towards the Guide due to his long-standing relationship with Isabella Villame, and Alexandra operates under the assumption that the elf would have her head if the opportunity presented itself to him.
Selis Vhaire Rokranon
Hidden: show
Most people do not know that Alexandra is a first cousin to the founder of the White Mask Theater, the Performers Guild, and The Baldur's Gate Gazette, and the Guide actively avoids making mention of the familial ties so that her accomplishments are not judged against those of the wealthy, powerful socialite.

Still, without Selis, Alexandra doubts that she would be in the Western Heartlands at all, much less serve as the Guide of Candlekeep, for Selis was the one who gifted Alexandra the coin to travel the realm and visit the same Sword Coast locales that Selis herself once called home.
Shezgorath the Harkener
Hidden: show
The ancient devil was the malevolent force who originally stole The Divine Tome of Oghma and perverted it into The Scorched Tome of Oghma that haunted and nearly killed Alexandra. His fate and whereabouts remain unknown, but the tome was cleansed at the conclusion of a ritual that lurched several members of Candlekeep and their allies back in time.
Shirtza (Cathrina) Viragh
Hidden: show
Alexandra has never been sure what to make of the long-time Acolyte of Candlekeep. Her infernal heritage provokes the usual reaction from the Guide, who fights against it in order to support Cathrina in her knowledge goals. Their relationship soured for a time when Cathrina backed Isabella Villame during the attempted coup, but Alexandra knows that part of that support stemmed from Cathrina's romantic feelings for the Gate Warden.
The Acolyte has returned to Candlekeep after a leave of absence and professed the desire to work towards advancement in her career, and the Guide has promised to help as much as possible.
Sirion Te'Dwa
Hidden: show
Beyond offering a large assortment of magical trinkets, Alexandra is not exactly sure what it is that the bench-resting elf does with his life. He seems to be involved, at least on the cusp, of a variety of things, and he has even had a few death threats made against him. He formerly led a now-defunct organization called The Guild of Magi, but the group dissolved before it had an opportunity to flourish. How the Sword Coast Guild of the Arcane, of which Sirion is now a part, differs from his first attempt at leadership remains unknown to Alexandra.
The elf and the scribe have a lukewarm relationship at best, because Sirion has always been closer to Isabella Villame and seems to share with her a preference for sleeping on random benches near campfires. Too, the elf did nothing, asked nothing when Desrah Asher once hurled vitriol towards Alexandra - a fact that the scribe challenged the elf to remedy.
Solwyn Astorio
Hidden: show
The half-elven writer and Guard of Candlekeep was someone with whom Alexandra initially had discord, but their dynamic changed once both of them advanced in rank. Solwyn became a trusted ally, and Alexandra felt the need to push him towards greater things despite his desire to be a 'useless' guard. He has been absent from Candlekeep for many months, and the Guide wonders if he will ever return.
Sunniva Tazorah Kayhr
Hidden: show
The peculiar shaman, who reminds Alexandra so much of Tarina Mazir, assisted the Guide with a dreamwalk that exposed all of her doubts, insecurities, and fears - all the things that The Scorched Tome of Oghma sought to exploit. Alexandra was impressed by the discretion Sunniva employed in safeguarding those secrets, and the Guide has thus recommended the spiritualist to others who need aid. When Alexandra contacted Sunniva, the woman was quick to respond, and the Guide appreciated her willingness to assist. Unfortunately, after nearly getting killed during the Mother Night saga, Sunniva has either kept a very low profile or departed from the area.
T

Talas Marsak
Hidden: show
The rough-around-the-edges warrior and instructor of The Bladestone Foundation first came to Candlekeep to request library access for research on his patron, Hoar the Doombringer. A chance encounter between them at the White Mask Theater, where a by-herself Alexandra asked a by-himself Talas to sit with her, sparked a respectful friendship between the pair of socially awkward souls. His work with The Bladestone Foundation keeps him busy, though, and the two acquaintances have not spoken for some time.
Tarina Mazir
Hidden: show
The spirit talker, Seeker of Candlekeep, and former cook at Pathfinders' Hall is a combination of friend, nemesis, and assistant. In the past, the two rarely interacted or spoke aside from the occasional exchange of casual conversation, and even then it was riddled with passive-aggressive tension. The two women finally made some amends when Alexandra initiated dialogue, although Alexandra doubted that they would ever be close. These doubts proved true when Tarina failed to notify Alexandra of the death of Eldarian Al'maire in a timely manner; the scribe blamed Tarina and her closeness to Ameris and Telia Santraeger for the oversight and subsequent revelation that Alexandra was not welcome to mourn. Alexandra's declining health at the hands of The Scorched Tome of Oghma has brought the two women of Candlekeep back together, and they have settled into a quasi-comfortable routine of agreeing to disagree on most matters. Despite their personal failings, Alexandra genuinely values Tarina for her abilities to communicate with spiritual entities. The revelation of the method behind one ability left the scribe with one of Tarina's closely-kept secrets; their advancement to Guide and Seeker, respectively, only strengthened their bond. The spiritualist departed Candlekeep shortly after Eldarian Al'maire departed to Waterdeep, and Alexandra missed her while she was gone.

When Tarina returned, though, Alexandra learned that she had gone with the paladin without saying anything to anyone, and the tentative friendship soon faltered again. The pair barely spoke during the short time that Alexandra and Eldarian experience their ill-fated romance, and Tarina - like so many blinded by the man - would hear none of the misdeeds he had done towards the Guide. Sickened by the behavior of the woman, Alexandra kept her distance - even when notified that Tarina was keeping quiet about an illness caused by the spirits she sees. The two finally spoke when Tarina informed the Guide that she would soon travel south to war-torn Tethyr to assist Ameris Santraeger. Alexandra could not resist a jab at the way Tarina rushes to aid those who do nothing but cause harm, and the pair parted yet again on shaky terms. Alexandra doubts that Tarina will ever return to Candlekeep.
Telia Santraeger
Hidden: show
The Steward of Pathfinders' Hall, Director of The White Mask Theater and The Performers Guild, and Editor-in-Chief of The Baldur's Gate Herald is a complicated woman with a complicated story, although Alexandra has only heard it through secondhand sources. The scribe was cordial and respectful, and sometimes received the same sentiment in return, but Alexandra doubted that Telia would ever consider her anything beyond a temporary worker. These doubts proved true when Tarina Mazir revealed that Telia did not want Alexandra informed of the death of Eldarian Al'maire. Because of Telia, Alexandra considered herself unwelcome to mourn the death of a man that she loved, and the scribe has subsequently avoided the entire group of supposedly righteous people. News of Telia departing from the region alongside her husband prompted little more than an impassive shrug from the scribe. For a brief time, the mending of the relationship between Alexandra and Ameris caused Telia to be viewed in a friendlier manner, but nothing good ever lasts with 'that bunch.' Alexandra felt slighted and judged by the Santraegers during her ill-fated romance with Eldarian Al'maire, and Telia did nothing but mock and belittle the concerns Alexandra shared with her.

During the farewell celebration for Aeili Azenci, Telia once again showed her backside, but Alexandra simply ignored the woman and her judgmental ways. The Guide continues to wonder how someone as kind and prescient as Aeili managed to trust someone as spiteful and vindictive as Telia with her secret plans, but the retirement of the Santraegers to Berdusk means that Alexandra never has to encounter the self-righteous witch again.
Teris Ynarno
Hidden: show
Hearsay has it that the crazed fire genasi has roamed the lands for years, and Alexandra once shook her head at the amount of attention others gave to the creature because she felt that attention was exactly what he craved. Every other month or so, a new 'would-be savior' would attempt to 'cure' Teris of his 'issues,' but the story always ended with the same chaos and tears. To Alexandra, Teris would never change, because Teris would not want to change - and the Guide had no patience for his antics. Whenever he came too close to Candlekeep and caused trouble, she would simply call for the guards. Problem solved.

She finally took the time to interact with Teris, although she required a translator for his hand signals and rumbled noises. He gifted her some hand-carved wood items, and she thought for a time that they were friends.

Unfortunately, the friendship would not last. Teris, who is easily manipulated and gullible to a fault, chose not only to believe the lies Isabella Villame and Morgalia Verenach spoke against Alexandra, but he went so far as to make threats against Candlekeep and the people within it who supported the Guide during the attempted coup. Alexandra confronted him, and while Teris offered a half-hearted apology for the threats that he "did not mean," the genasi continues to keep company with the same people and stubbornly cling to the same false notions.
Terri Lalani
Hidden: show
The charismatic councilor of The Phoenix Company is someone outside Candlekeep who used to appreciate Alexandra's dedication to scholarly pursuits. Terri occasionally involved Alexandra in matters and sought her input, which delighted the scribe. After becoming the Guide of Candlekeep, Alexandra had fewer interactions with Terri, although they remained cordial when they saw each other.

Alexandra thought that she had a friend and ally in Terri, but the Guide later discovered that Terri enjoys nothing more than to insult and demean Alexandra behind her back. Multiple reports received from multiple sources revealed that Terri launched a vicious personal attack against Alexandra and her love life while attending a magefair, and the way the Guide views Terri changed for the worse as a result.
Tess Ableton
Hidden: show
Alexandra does not place as much blame upon the Silverstar of Selûne for her affair with a married man, but the Guide of Candlekeep still deems the woman culpable. Ultimately, Michael Dunn's romance with Tess served as the catalyst that forced Alexandra to sever ties with the man who has been one of her oldest, most dearest friends - and while the Guide realizes that the heart wants what the heart wants, she cannot help but resent Tess for her role in the ruination.
Tethtoril, First Reader of Candlekeep
Hidden: show
Like most members of Candlekeep, Alexandra much prefers speaking with the First Reader instead of Ulraunt, the Keeper of the Tomes. While the advice that Tethtoril, as a devout of Mystra, gives her is oftentimes shrouded in mystery, he always puts the best interests of Candlekeep at the forefront.

The only issue the Guide has ever had with Tethtoril was when he made what she felt was a jab at her age - a sensitive topic for the still-young leader.
Thedran Asen
Hidden: show
The connection between the Rock, as he has been nicknamed, and the Guide of Candlekeep is a tentative one mostly based on her loose connection to the noble house that he loyally serves: House Rokranon. Still, Alexandra knows that the historian for the Radiant Heart Auxiliary will be there to support her when and if he is needed, and she trusts his counsel during the times when she has sought it.
Thrandlwyn Morticarys
Hidden: show
The half-elf Seeker of Candlekeep is someone with whom Alexandra has had a tense relationship due to his preference for Isabella Villame. Muttered comments and overt disrespect eventually resulted in disciplinary action, and unlike others who have gotten worse after discipline, Thrandlwyn has actually gotten better. Alexandra believes that he could make a fine scholar if he better applied himself, and she has tried to encourage his initiative for projects and research opportunities so that he one day believes in himself with the same fervor.
U

Ulraunt, the Keeper of the Tomes
Hidden: show
Any time that the reclusive wizard who rules Candlekeep emerges from his residence, Alexandra mentally prepares herself for an argument that she will not win. For the most part, though, Ulraunt seems pleased with her work as the Guide, and the young woman felt a boost of confidence when her attempt to resign during the saga of The Scorched Tome of Oghma was summarily ignored.

His decision not to remove her as the Guide of Candlekeep during a meeting that addressed the attempted coup by Isabella Villame further reinforced the fact that Ulraunt values what Alexandra contributes to Candlekeep.
Uriel Valenal
Hidden: show
For whatever reason, the turban-wearing druid decided at some point that he hated Alexandra because she exists in the same realm as does he. He spoke ill of her at every opportunity - but only to others, never directly to her. Thankfully, the coward seems to have departed from the region.
V

Vala Dunn (née Reyer)
Hidden: show
Alexandra has some mixed feelings when it comes to the former crew member of both The Twilight Rose and Thatcher Shipwright and Company. Vala made the Guide's long-time friend, Michael Dunn, happy enough that he married her, but the two women have never been overly close.

Vala did - likely at the behest of her ex-husband - aid Candlekeep on numerous occasions, and so the Guide remains cordial enough when and if she sees the other woman. The last-moment decision by Vala to ask Alexandra to help her get dressed for her wedding meant a lot to the Guide, although she suspects that Michael encouraged or insisted upon the gesture.

Alexandra hates the way that Michael ultimately betrayed his vows to Vala and plans to reach out to the jilted woman at some point in the near future.
Verek Nyx Kane
Hidden: show
The stuttering Seeker of Candlekeep and master linguist occasionally irks Alexandra for reasons she cannot truly define, and she wonders why she does not like to linger over-long in his presence. Still, when she can get him to perform a task, he does so with happiness and enthusiasm that she can appreciate, and he has always treated her with respect while in her presence.
The one and only wedding ceremony the priestess of Oghma performed was when she married Verek and his wife, Zaria Nyx. It was a celebrated event at Candlekeep and one of the fondest memories Alexandra has of Verek.
W

Wesmille Groston
Hidden: show
The half-elf is, without a doubt, Alexandra's longest known friend. Even though a private admission caused an unintended rift, and the two took a while to recover from it, Alexandra still put her life on hold when Wesmille wanted to return to Neverwinter and face his past. She successfully defended him from murder charges, and the two renewed their friendship during the brief but productive trip. He now serves with her in Candlekeep as a Guard, although their friendly fishing trips of old are now few and far-between.
X

Xander De'Cardi
Hidden: show
A self-proclaimed 'Grand Duke of Sembia,' the man brought an ragtag army near Candlekeep during his search for The Midnight Sun, a diamond supposedly in the region, and issued numerous threats at the start of Alexandra's tenure as the Guide. Rumors circulated that he was slain during a fierce battle at The Friendly Arm Inn, but those rumors later proved false.
Xelarian Cannister
Hidden: show
The ne'er-do-well half-elf was one of the few people with whom Alexandra would occasionally tease and play. They had an almost sibling-like camaraderie, although the Guide turned more serious after her promotion. Xelarian joined the martial forces of Candlekeep as a Protector, and he helped keep her informed of what was happening beyond the walls of the fortress. Their friendship developed into a romantic relationship once Xelarian spoke of his feelings, and they eventually entered into a courtship. The doubts and insecurities that stemmed from her previous relationships faded over time, and she grew dependent upon him just in time for him to leave without a word in the middle of the night. Heartbroken, Alexandra remembered his penchant for short-lived dalliances and considered herself another notch on his bedpost.

Xelarian returned to Candlekeep almost a year later with a story about how he was abducted and held captive for months until he managed to escape. Alexandra allowed him to resume his role as a Guard for the library fortress, but the two have not rekindled their romance and have developed a polite, somewhat distant working relationship.
