Suton Dykes stops by Greenest on his way to meet wagons due in with some of his goods from the far east. He studies a flier seeking a guard, full time for a Cleric and ponders what might trouble the area and worries for his trade goods a moment. He declines the offer mentally and orders a drink instead. While there he hears of another event that might trouble his trade the desertion of Fort Abraxus. He pulls out his battered map and looks for the place but with no luck and so he asks around the Inn.

Does anyone know who owns the place now if anyone he asks? How many buildings are there? He explains to those who had not yet left. There is gold in buildings mark my words! It may not be guild hall quality but for the right price it will move on the market!

During the day of 1 Kythorn, 1359, the Green Enclave held a public meeting. There were many attendees. Most of the meeting's discussion centered around the damaged land around the Boarskyre Bridge. Despite a very rude interruption by an ice mage walking right through the gathering and disrupting the proceedings (who claimed that they did so to go a straight line, though they had to go out of their way to enter the circle), the meeting was held peacefully and without incident.

An anonymous (or rather pseudonymous, as it is signed as coming from Herald of Black Dawn, whoever might that be) pamphlet being most likely some kidn of document of Cyricist faith - or rather, of one of the many competing sects of this still young religion, started to appear in various places in widely understood West. The Volume I in the title strongly suggest potential for followups

OOC : for mechanical reasons illyon figures as the author, but ICly he strictly used the aforementioned pseudonym.
The Dysangelion

Volume I

Proclamation of the Prince

We are living through unholy transfiguration of cosmic scale. An initiation of New Aeon. When it becomes necessary to utter the Word, the whole of the land must be bathed in blood. The Old must die to make a way for The New. The many false gods have to perish for the One to rule supreme. It is unavoidable progression, an unstoppable force of fate and change. The Black Dawn is rising, its unholy radiance growing stronger each day and hour and soon it will eclipse all that was before. No flesh shall be spared – the hearts of men will blacken like the Unholy River blackened with blood of fallen god. Those hearts who resist will have their beat quenched instead. There is no escape from the scorching radiance of the Black Sun. Death to all of those who oppose its rise. Death to all who oppose Cyric.

This is the One True Way

This is the rule of the Supreme Throne.

On Rule of Will

Authority is nothing unless backed by might, but more importantly Will. The Black Sun is the authority supreme, from which all power stems. Blessed be with his darkness those in his unholy graces, for only those deserve to rule over the land. The prophets of Old said, Might makes Right, in which they were on spot somewhat, but ultimately erred. Might that fails to exercise itself, to impose, means nothing. It is Will that makes right. A will to utilise one’s might to the fullest, A Will to act, a Will to take, a Will to Power. For those who aspire to be Dark Sun’s stewards upon the land.

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law

above which only the will of the Supreme Being stands. No deed is too heinous, no murder too cruel, no betrayal too bitter in a way to power and glory of Cyric. Obey not the slave morality of the paladin cattle. Exercise your Will to Power. This is the One True Way.

On Fermentation of Strife

Chaos is a ladder to power, and no chaos is better than the chaos of conflict. Whenever and wherever one will crashes unto another, blows are exchanged and grudges forged, not only is the black heart of our Supreme Lord filled with joy, but a door for furthering temporal ends opens. When wills grind against each other, a third party can divide and conquer. Pit your foes against each other. Watch them bleed each other slowly, then stab them when they do least expect. Pick your allies wisely, and never treat such declarations as permanent. Aligning goals eventually shift and diverge, and beneficial contracts turn into burdens unexpectedly quickly. Climb up, corpse after corpse, ruin after ruin, betrayal after betrayal. Thrust fright into their hearts so they shall not know day or hour of their doom. Fell one foe at a time, and keep others uneasy, confused, and vulnerable. Any method is justified if it brings the desired end. This is the One True Way.

On Way of the Slayer

Power over the life and death is the power ultimate, and the power the true steward of the Black Sun must exert it without hesitation. For there is no dynamic like the one between the hunter and the prey, the killer and the victim, the executioner and the condemned. To take life, is the finest exercise of superiority. Murder is an Unholy Sacrament. It needs to be savoured, in every bit. All slayings are good for all of them further the influence of Our New Lord of Murder, but some are worthier than others. The terror of impending doom, the prolonged agony brings joy indescribable to our Lord, and also projects our power and reputation, striking further fright into hearts of heathens. Whenever possible, remember to offer your victims to the One, for Black Sun delights in the blood spilled in his name. This is the One True Way.

On Negation of Truth

The Prince of Lies is the title of your Lord, and you will honour this epithet. For words have power, and bending them to your will can release this power. Say what you need at the moment. Say what serves your cause and cause of Cyric. Do not bother yourself with factuality, but only if your words bring the desired end. Be wary though, do not repeat the errors of Harlot-Slain-on-Blackfeather-Bridge and her minions, however. Lies are to serve a purpose, not to be an wanton end in their own. They are not meant to be litany of pointless untruths uttered with no thought about the consequence and risk. Treat your words like a chisel to shape your surroundings to your liking and to Cyric’s Greater Glory. Obfuscation, doubt, perjury, libel and deceit are weapons as powerful as any blade. But like any blade, they need to be wielded skillfully to achieve desired effect This is the One True Way.

Those with keen eyes that walk the Way of the Lion may notice a mark of a Crescent Moon appear in one of the stones present in the formation known as a druidic circle.

The mark is not carved, it is not chiseled, it is not worked. The stone itself seems to be shaped that way, as if it had always been like that.

*A neatly written parchment is affixed under the essay seemingly in response*
So Where Does Power Lie?

In the mighty warrior that can dispatch many men with the swing of their sword;
In the wealthy king whose purse can buy the warrior's loyalty;
In the stealthy assassin whose knife can dispatch the king from the shadows;
Or maybe in the silver tongue that can stop them in their track with the right words?

Who lives? Who dies?

Power is a game of smoke and mirrors and perhaps you have been answering the wrong question.

Perhaps the right question is WHY?

What is the purpose of power?

Power without purpose is a master rather than a tool and the powerful man is but a slave. And how can you find purpose if such is purposefully obscured by the un-light of a dark sun?

But such is the problem of the negation of truth. The perfect liar often ends up believing their own lies, including the very fact that truth -can- actually be negated. Truth can be distorted, molded but sooner or later it will surface like a bloated body discarded in a marsh.

Whoever you are, I pray you might one day see true light.

As the subtitle of Volume I would imply, another part of the Dysvangelion, a Cyricist pamphlet by a pseudonymous author, the "Herald of Black Dawn" has entered shady circulation in the Western Heartlands

OOC : for mechanical reasons illyon figures as the author, but ICly he strictly used the aforementioned pseudonym.
The Dysangelion

Volume II

Beyond Good and Evil

For common man, his experience locked entirely within the confines of the Material Realm, good and evil are primarily moral categories. Yet, this is not their real essence. For it means conflating the result with the primary cause. Good and Evil, along Law and Chaos, are in their most base essence just forces. The elementary forces of the universe, which along the elements of matter and energies of life and death, give the universe shape and set it in motion. It is true, that these forces come with certain properties, that cause being formed by them behave in specific patterns. Extrapolation of such patterns to behaviour of mortals is what gives us the common notions of good and evil – for differentiation from the cosmic forces, lower case is used for these words in their moral sense. It needs to be noted however, that most mortal denizens of the Material Realm are not intrinsically aligned to any of those forces – they’re the domain of supernatural, seeping in from outer spheres. Why most humans are attached to these notions, then? The answer is simple – through cultural imprint and conditioning. Apart from certain races, whose blood is explicitly contaminated with outsider element, or who are affected by some other supernatural effect, any material being has equal potential for both. Yet, most human societies evolved towards the good side of the spectrum. Which creates a strong bias amongst their members – bias so strong that it is reflected in the language itself The word “good” is used both in the moral sense and in the practical sense, meaning “positive” in terms of outcome. This of course, leads to interesting paradoxes of speech – an assassin, performing their task perfectly has done good in the practical sense. Yet in the sense of commonly understood morality, the act he committed was evil. And here is the first revelation. To obtain it one must stand aside, and see Good and Evil as what they actually are, unaffected by cultural conditioning into their reflections in material morality. From this perspective, it becomes clear, that as cosmic forces, they are opposing, yet equivalent. Neither is, in intrinsic sense, fundamentally better (for a lack of more appropriate word) than the another. This is the first step on the Threefold Path to Liberation.

The Left Hand Path

In the next step, we will use another linguistic analogy. One might have noticed that the word “right” is often associated with the good-end of the morality spectrum (and too some degree, also lawful). We do have terms like “righteous” “right-hearted”, and so on, and so on. Its opposite is “wrong” but the word has a major weakness – apart from describing morals, it can also describe the “practical” wrongness, i.e. being in error - logical or otherwise. But the world “right” has yet another meaning which is a relative direction. And it comes with yet another opposite, unmarred with such negative connotations – “left”. Hence “left” can be used as a short-hand for opposite of right in a “moral” sense, in a way that does not imply its inherent inferiority. That liberates us at least from the semantic layer of conditioning. And now it can be seen clearly that one has two paths in front of oneself – the right hand path, associated with forces of Good and their reflective good morals, and the left hand path reflecting the same on the on the side of Evil. As it was mentioned in previous step, they are at their basest level equivalent – quantification of value simply does not make any sense at the most fundamental level of existence. Yet, beyond the nonexistent intrinsic valuing, there is another way of their assessment – one rooted in practicality. Where does right hand path lead? Towards submission of oneself to others, towards constraints and bounds, towards slavery to ideals and rejection of self-interest in favour of interest of others. The left hand path, conversely, leads to putting uttermost value on the self and its own, on refusal of being a slave to others. There is only only valid reason for its follower to bend - to avoid destruction by another, more powerful force, a force that more likely than not also follows the left hand path, yet have mastered it to a higher degree. Thus, the left hand path is the liberatory one, the one that leads to the fullest self-realization, and the more it is mastered, the more liberated is its follower’s existence. Choosing to walk the left hand path is thus the second step on the Threefold Path to Liberation.

On the Breaking of Chains

Mere choice of the left hand path is never enough, though. While many “righteous” preachers will claim that the way of evil is the “easy” one they could not be further from reality. It may be an easy one if one was fortunate enough to be born among culture unmarred with the goodward conditioning, but, at least amongst humans, not one truly is. Especially not here, in the West, where I write down these words. But even among so called “evil” races while the influence might be minor, it is always there. Orcs, for example, in all their ruthlessness and rejection of mercy are still bound by their notions of honour and forthrightness. To go from this imperfect state, tarred by conditioning-induced qualms and doubts, to state of full liberation, where chains of conscience, remorse, guilt, compassion, attachment and rightfulness no longer exist, is no easy task. It requires transvaluation of all values, rejection of imprints fed unto one’s mind since one’s very birth. Very few can achieve this on their own. A proper teacher is usually needed. A proper patron. And who would be a better patron in such endeavour than the one who mastered the left hand path to such degree that he elevated himself through it from mere mortal to the mightiest of the gods, the Dark Prince, The Dark Sun, mighty Cyric? Come unto him, and under guidance of his teachings and mysteries dispensed by his prophets, you will shed your chains one after another, and walk the left hand path forward at expedient speed. This is the third and final step on a Threefold Path to Liberation.
